- Hviezdoslavovo námestie - Here, participants will admire the historic Slovak National Theatre, Hotel Carlton, and the statue of one of Slovakia’s most renowned poets.
The discussion will cover the former city fortifications, Slavic language groups, and delve into the topic of cinematography as it relates to the square.
On the way to the square, the group will encounter two of the city’s most beloved statues.
- St. Martin’s Cathedral (Dom svateho Martina) - A short visit to the Cathedral is planned, contingent on the absence of services or weddings. This site, where Hungarian monarchs were crowned, is symbolized by a crown atop the tower instead of the usual cross.
As the group passes a weeping willow tree, it’s the perfect opportunity to discuss Easter Monday traditions.
- Židovská - The tour will explore the former Jewish district, including the site of the Neolog synagogue (demolished in the 1960s), its historical and current appearance, the origins of Krav Maga, and other aspects of Jewish culture in Bratislava.
- Beblavého - Known locally as the Bermuda Triangle, this area is free of disappearing aircraft or ships, so there’s no need for concern. It features several pubs, and in the days of the Slovak crown, drinks were notably cheaper. The guide may share personal anecdotes from this locale.
- Michalská brána - The tour will cover traditional dishes, and the guide will point out recommended spots for lunch, dinner, a glass of wine, or an evening drink.
Participants will pass through the last remaining gate of the city fortifications, as well as the narrowest building and street in Bratislava.
- Bratislava Castle - A brief refreshment break on the castle hill will include discussions about the Iron Curtain, fascinating facts about Bratislava, and the castle itself, which hosted the Bush-Putin summit in 2005.
Across the river, participants can admire Petržalka, the largest residential district in Central Europe, built during the previous regime.
On the return to the city center, the tour will pass the National Council, where the guide will discuss the political situation and highlight a Second World War memorial, a must-see for visitors to Bratislava.
