• Unirea Salt Mine - Located in Slanic Prahova, this salt mine is renowned as the leading salt mine in Europe and is a major tourist attraction in Romania’s Prahova Valley. The town of Slanic Prahova gained fame and attracted numerous visitors due to its sulphurous springs on the Slanic slopes. These springs, along with the salty lakes formed in the old, abandoned salt mines, are celebrated for their healing properties and are known as baths: Baia Rosie (Red Bath), Baia Baciului (Shepherd’s Bath), and Baia Verde (Green Bath). These features contributed to the growth of tourism and spa activities, first recorded in 1853. Soon after its establishment, Slanic Prahova was designated a tourist resort, featuring two main attractions: Salina Noua (The New Salt Mine) and Salina Veche (The Old Salt Mine). Salina Noua continues to produce significant amounts of salt, while the old mine, with its trapezoidal shape, has a base opening of 32 meters, a height of 45 meters, and an upper line of 10 meters.

To maximize time spent within the salt mine, volleyball and football courts have been established for visitors. The mine’s interior is perfect for sporting events, serving as a training ground for sports teams and hosting athletic competitions. It also provides an excellent movie set for cinema enthusiasts. The air, rich in sodium and free from allergenic particles, along with an air pressure 18-22 mmHg higher than at the surface, creates a natural microclimate beneficial for treating various respiratory conditions. Deep within the mine, a sanatorium offers certified medical assistance to asthma patients. The temperature remains a constant 12 degrees Celsius year-round, with an air humidity of 50%.
