The fortress of Prejmer was started by the Teutonic knights, somewhere around the year 1218, and then to be built in the style of the early Gothic, introduced in Transylvania by Cistercian monks. With the Turkish invasion of the fifteenth century, the systematic fortification of the place is begun, which can boast of an absolutely remarkable resistance, which did not allow even an Ottoman conquest.

Emerging from its past wreckage, the Marienburg Fortress stands proudly in Feldioara, positioned on the Olt riverbanks, a mere 20 km from Brașov, along the highway to Sighișoara. Its renovation, undertaken from 2013 to 2017, preserved the surviving fragments of the walls from the preceding hundred years of neglect and reinstated its seventeenth-century look.

The plateau where the fortress stands has unveiled evidence of human settlement from ancient times during archeological excavations - from the Neolithic and Bronze Age, Dacian and Roman eras, and most notably, the Middle Ages.
