Highlights
  • Arte y Pasion Café - This cafe serves as the initial stop and gathering point.
  • Avenida Jimenez - After visiting the market, you’ll walk towards Avenida Jimenez and 7th Avenue. Here, you’ll gain insights into the beginnings of the political conflict and learn about the events of the Bogotazo riots in 1948. You’ll visit Santander Plaza, the San Francisco church, Jorge Eliecer Gaitan’s memorial, and observe the eclectic architecture of the city center. As you walk along 7th Avenue towards Plaza Bolivar, you’ll deepen your understanding of Colombia’s troubled history.
  • Museo Nacional de Colombia Fragmentos - Next, you’ll visit the “counter-monument” Fragmentos, created by artist Doris Salcedo and a group of women who were victims of Colombia’s armed conflict. (Gallery closed on Mondays) This artwork, made from the melted rifles of former FARC members, will be on display for as many years as the armed conflict lasted. Unlike a typical monument, this piece offers a unique perspective on what a monument should be, represent, and feel like.
  • Centro Cultural Gabriel Garcia Marquez - From Fragmentos, you’ll take a short walk to Selva Nevada, a company dedicated to preserving biodiverse crops across Colombia by working with conflict-vulnerable farming communities through fair trade and association. The ice cream here features both exotic and traditional flavors and is simply delightful.
  • Plaza de Bolivar de Bogota - Upon reaching Colombia’s main plaza, it’s time for a Q&A session. This location has witnessed numerous significant events, including the 1985 siege of the Palacio de Justicia, one of the country’s most remembered and bloody episodes. It has also been the site of countless demonstrations both for and against the 2016 Peace Agreement, among other events that have shaped the current state of the country.
  • Cerveceria La Trocha / La Casa De La Paz - (Only included in the 6-hour tour) La Casa de la Paz, or the House of Peace, is a space for open dialogue owned by former FARC militants who are now integrated into society. Here, you’ll meet people from various parts of the country who have been directly affected by conflict and are now leaders, artists, and entrepreneurs. You can support their craft shop by purchasing souvenirs. This stop also offers a taste of one of Colombia’s best craft beers, La Trocha ale porter. As you enjoy your drink, you’ll have the opportunity to meet the people in the space, buy souvenirs, and explore the brewery.
  • Chapinero - (Only included in the 6-hour tour) The tour concludes with lunch at Salvo Patria, a farm-to-table restaurant that supports peacebuilding communities through its unique and delicious food.

Learning about Peace - Great tour focusing on the history of civil violence and the ways that peace is impacting the lives of so many. We really enjoyed the discussions as well as the Fragmentos museum. As you walk on the tour, you will notice other historical aspects.

Bogata Visit - This was one of the most interesting tours I have been on. Raul our guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. It was interesting learning about the troubles in Columbia and the efforts being made since. The places visited were very all relevant and the visit to the art installation was very moving. I would recommend this tour.

Great Weaving Peace Tour - This tour is outstanding and it is delivered by a first rate guide Gigio! This tour provides a thorough overview of events key to understanding conflict and peace in Bogota and Colombia. Our guide Gigio, who has personally been impacted by violence, led us through Old Town and highlighted the complexities the role Bogota has played in Colombian political and social history to help us appreciate the struggles of the Colombian people. Gigio patiently answered a myriad of questions. He also made sure we had treats at the market where local businesses are thriving. For those of you think only of Colombia as its Narco reputation, come and hear about the resilience of the people.

Learn something new! With great photo exhibit - What a cool day! I feel like my husband and I got a Master’s Degree in recent Colombian history and the conflict with guerrillas, FARC,etc. We started the day with our guides Felipe and Raul in a really cool neighborhood for lunch and a preview of our day. We had a great lunch and then set out to walk around the Presidential Palace and the square. We saw sites of past protests and victories, but the coolest part was the photography exhibit toward the end of the afternoon. The black and white photos of the displacement of Colombians in the past 25 years was extraordinary. Our guides were knowledgable and passionate about the subject and we learned a LOT- a very different view of the conflict than the one we see most of the time in the US.

Peace and reconciliation tour-- an incredible never ending story! - Peace and reconciliation-- so complicated inside and out. A never ending process. I loved our Bogota walking tour and conversations with our local guide--- talking about the Embera community members who have set up a "tent camp" in the central park to protest the lack of basic services and resources in the region where they live; the incredibly moving art installation called "Ovarios- A Song of Sisterhood for the Victims of Sexual Violence in Colombia; the visit to "Fragmentos: Espacio de Arte y Memoria to see and learn about the industrial and human processes that used 37 tons of melted weaponry to create the floor to commemorate the end of the conflict; and so much more. A huge thank you to Impulse Travel for offering this tour and to our amazing guide, Raul, who did an expert job of sharing his knowledge and his own stories; facilitating our overall experience and engaging with our "endless" questions and reflections.
