Despite most of the city being relatively flat, it borders an impressive mountain range to the east, colloquially known as the Cerros Orientales. The range spans the length of Bogotá’s territory from south to north.
These mountains offer a striking visual and significantly influence the city’s climate. Despite their constant presence, they are often overlooked by both residents and visitors of the city. Recently, after a concerted effort from residents of adjacent neighborhoods, the city authorities have opened up several hiking trails, offering people the opportunity to explore one of the city’s greatest natural assets.
