Additional Information

Embark on a 4-hour diving journey into clear glacier waters originating from Thingvellir National Park, and experience the sensation of weightlessness. Your certified dive instructor will guide you at a comfortable pace allowed by the gentle current. Immense underwater visibility, only bounded by water density, is a unique feature of this place. Park rules mandate a maximum diving depth of 18 meters. Acknowledged as a complex dive, the expedition’s group size is intentionally kept small, with no more than three participants. You have the liberty to select from one of the three scheduled departure times at the time of your booking.

  • Minimum age: 18 years old
  • Please note that the National park charges a small parking fee
  • Winter departures: If the temperature falls below -0°C there is a possibility that the dive instructor will change the tour into just one dive due to safety reasons
  • This is a challenging dive where you need to be capable of carrying heavy equipment up to 400m
  • Since you are wearing a snorkeling/dive mask to see underwater, there can be nothing in the way of the seal to keep them from filling up with water. You cannot wear glasses underneath the mask. You will have to go without them, wear contact lenses, or bring your own goggles with prescription
  • Please note that PADI open water license or compatible is required to be able to participate in this tour. As all dives are performed in a dry suit it is require to have a dry-suit certification or at least 10 logged drysuit dives to be able to join this tour. Divers must supply their size of suit upon booking. It is recommended that your most recent dive was within the last 2 years before diving Silfra, as this dive is rated as a challenging dive
  • It is recommended to wear warm undergarments (fleece/wool), warm woolen socks
  • It is recommended to bring a change of clothing. The change of clothing is a precaution since no dry suit can be 100% guaranteed to be dry unless it is made especially for you
  • A maximum of 3 people per booking

Silfra fissure snorkelling - Our guide Isamar was brilliant. She was very patient with us and helped us get our gear on. She helped us glide through the fissure unrushed and safely. Great trip

Amazing! - Really cool Tour with a very nice diving instructor. She was very competent and informed us about all the important parts. It felt really save with her - snorkeling in 3 deg cold water - and the whole tour is just amazing. She even made photos of us for free and the hot chocolate in the end really helped to warm up. Most beautiful colors I've ever seen.

Amazing experience - Amazing experience. It's hard to capture the beauty in words. Tour guide, Gabe, was fantastic, particularly with people who felt a little nervous about the experience.

Amazing! - Such an awesome experience! It ended up snowing while we were in the water and it was just the cherry on top of it. Our guide, Tereza, was absolutely incredible and made sure my terrified self (I don't do well with my head under water, and I'm not a strong swimmer) not only made it in to the water, but was able to actually enjoy the experience. It ended up being one of my favorite excursions of our trip.

Silfra snorkeling with Arctic adventures - We did our snorkeling at the end of February. The scenery was stunning, the entire Thingvellir National Park was covered in snow. You couldn't ask for a more stunning setting. But as you can imagine with the snow you get the cold. I think it was minus 8 degrees Celsius on the morning of our trip. So it was cold. But we were aware of this, we checked the weather, and the snorkeling hand book that you are told to read also tells you the country is called iceland for a reason. So we were prepared for the cold and everything accept your hands was OK, you just couldn't keep your hands warm. Getting suited up In the carpark was an experience. But again one we knew about. We were all a little nervous of going into the almost freezing water, especially as you could see the lake looked frozen, but I think the cold air temperatures made the water feel much warmer than we expected. None of us felt colder in the water than we did out of it. Marcin our guide was excellent. I think he said he was polish but spoke great English. He was very good with our youngest son who did struggle a little towards the end or the tour. Being in the clearest water you have ever been in, between two continental plates, in the most stunning setting. A most amazing experience. We booked for our eldest son who loves the water. The rest of us weren't sure about it but did it as a family. And so pleased we did. Something you will never forget.

Silfra was beautiful but Arctic Adventures was Terrible - This trip was a disaster. We were up North and skipped some other things we wanted to do in order to get to Silfra in time. We got there a little early and waited in the picnic area. We listened in as some of the other guides provided information on the area and talked about the parliament etc. It was very interesting and they seemed to be taking a lot of time to give participants a lot of information. We went back to the van and started to get our snorkel gear on. My daughter couldn't get the boots of her dry suit on so I asked the guide to come over. My daughter told her the boots were too small. The guide bent down and shoved my daughter’s feet into the boots. My daughter said they were way too tight and the guide said they were supposed to be tight. Then the guide got the group together to go over the dive. It was very brief and didn't go through the other information that the guides from the other companies did. After that we started walking over to the dive platform. My daughter is normally a very fast walker but she was at the back of the group. After a short distance she stopped and told me that she was already getting blisters from the tight boots. I called the guide back and she looked at the boots and she said something about there not being suits with larger boots available (My daughter is tall but not a giant: 5’ 9” and size 10 foot). This was totally ridiculous as my feet are much smaller than my daughter's but my boots were much larger than hers. It was clearly too late to change the dry suit so we kept going. The guide was getting increasingly irritated with us and not at all helpful. We got in the water and soon after we got started my daughter said the blisters were getting worse but she kept going. When we got towards the area with all the blue rocks you always in in pictures online, my daughter started struggling and panicking. She said she couldn't kick any more and was getting dragged by the current. I waved my arms to get the guide’s attention. Eventually she came over and had to pull my daughter to the platform. My daughter got out and I followed. We obviously had to cut the trip short and couldn't see the blue part of the lagoon. We started walking back to the van. The guide passed us with the rest of the group but didn't check to see how my daughter was doing. We got out of our suits and I brought the car back to pick up my daughter because she couldn't put her shoes on. I asked the company for a refund. They gave me a long list of excuses for the poor experience and sub-par service and offered a 10% discount on our next trip with them. Ha!
