Join our tour guides and experience the best of the Bizkaia region. We’ll start with a hike to the hermitage of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, climbing 241 steps surrounded by rock, sea, and wind, leading to breathtaking views.
After returning to our starting point and taking a well-deserved break, we’ll head to the picturesque fishing village of Mundaka, located on the west bank of the Urdaibai River estuary. Here, you’ll witness the blend of modern surfers and traditional fishermen in a village with unique charm.
Finally, we’ll delve into the heart of Basque history by visiting the legendary Gernika tree and learning about the tragic bombing of the village during the Spanish Civil War. Along the way, we’ll also see Picasso’s portrayal of Gernika.

Fantastic guide and experience - This was an outstanding introduction to the coast of Basque Country! Jose Martinez was a fantastic guide. His insights provided us a deeper understanding of the region and sights. Jose was patient with our group as people with many different abilities navigated Gaztelugatxe. On our travel day, we encountered a local festival in Mundaka - which Jose explained to share a meaningful appreciation for local traditions. His recommendations for local pintxos and beverages were appreciated as we all needed a snack break after hiking Gaztelugatxe. Gernika was also a very powerful experience on its own, but Jose's explanation of the history and sharing a poem helped us reflect more personally on our visit. I highly recommend this entire experience and would be thrilled to have Jose Martinez as a guide again.

Fantastic Day! - This was a wonderful tour. Pilar was a fantastic guide with lots of knowledge about the area. The amount of walking was not for the faint of heart and we were exhausted afterwards, but it was well worth it and a day we wont forget.

Out of 10 - The visit to the three places was charming. We contracted visit with hotel pickup, quite a success. Best of all, our guide, Jose, 10.his way of conveying the history of the Basque Country, is totally forgetful, makes you feel, what really the Basque Country makes you feel when you are in this land.

A lot of steps but worth it - The trip was absolutely AMAZING. Our tour guide Jose Martinez was great we couldn’t have asked for a better guide. The weather wasn’t too bad to us and was definitely a workout but worth it!! My family and I would do it all over again.

Beautiful sites! - Great tour! I recommend bringing your own snacks and drinks as the options are limited. Also, be prepared for a very intense hike.

Incredible view and pictures at Gaztelugatxe - While out of the company’s control, the intense rain from pick up to hiking Gaztelgatxe was hard to push through. We were surprised by the 1.5 hour long hike thankfully the view was worth it! Very foggy at the start but rain started to ease halfway. This is not ideal for young children or anyone who would have trouble climbing 250+ stairs, especially given the wet conditions we experienced. The pinxos was an enjoyable local experience

Good but could be much better - Really good locations, really good guide but group size too large. There were 31 people on this tour despite the description saying 15. Lots of waiting around wasting valuable time

Alois booking this tour - it is not worth the money - The tour was very disappointing and we are wondering that Viator cooperates with such providers.
In the description and booking confirmation of the tour it was stated that at each spot we would have 1 hour time. Instead at Mundaka and Gernika we only stayed 20 minutes. So we neither had the Chance to visit the different sights like the air shelters in Gernika nor to enjoy some snacks or a coffee. The guide was very inexperienced in managing large groups. For example at the first stop we waited 35 minutes until the group was complete after a toilet stop, loosing variable time. The driver and the guide were more interested in getting back on time for their sunday lunch instead of focusing on the tour. Overall we experienced an expensive Bus Shuttle Service without suficient time in between. We would Not recommend booking this tour or booking with Viator as the helpdesk did Not help us with our complaint After the tour.
