Stars Abound! - What a fantastic adventure. After traversing the 13,900 foot Mauna Kea, you are treated with a spectacular sunset. You literally feel like you are on top of the world! After the amazing sunset you make. your way a bit down the volcano for stargazing. Being from Southern California, you forget what a nighttime sky can look like. We saw multiple shooting stars and we were lucky enough to be there on May 1st, to see Kilauea erupt in the distance.. WOW, what a spectacular night. Speaking of stars, that would describe our husband and wife tour guides Rob and Jessica. Friendly personalities is an understatement, but their knowledge and passion was even more impressive. Both had amazing information of all things volcano and I think Rob might actually be an Astronomer, or so it seemed with his knowledge. With a clear love of what they do, you could see they didn't want the evening to end as much as us. It is a long adventure and some snacks are provided but I recommend bringing a light dinner. This tour was definitely worth the time and I recommend it highly to anyone visiting the Big Island.

beautiful but cold - Tay and Zaxh were fantastic. They knew their stuff. The sunset was beautiful and so was the stargazing. I would say my only complaint is it started getting pretty cold and thy probably should have ended thr stargazing about 15 min before they did. It was freezing. The coats that are provided do keep you warm but my feet were so cold. Overall, great experience. Be prepared for about a 7 hours of fun.

A Hawaii must do trip, awesome experience - Wonderful to not worry about the drive. After experiencing the roads, would have made much more stressful driving ourselves. And the experience? Wow. Wonderful. Beautiful to see the sunset and the star gazing after(only allowed with tours), and the educational part by our guides Robert and Jess, as well as Jamie(transfer bus driver), was great! A once in a lifetime experience. Parkas provided were great, clean, and made the event more enjoyable as well. Ample snacks provided, but eat before, as it will be late when you get home! In addition, we felt safe with the crew, who constantly were checking on us and concerned with our safety at 14k feet.

Cloud cover + rushed, but a few types of activities of interest - If I was doing it again The first bus was super loud and long- I wish we had taken our car to the meeting point with the vans. I also would have rescheduled it for a better day weather conditions wise, I figured they would let us know but really it's on us to cancel/reschedule. I would have taken as much time as possible to adjust to the altitude at every stop: take slow deep breaths, and be grazing/drinking water the whole time. We didn't have enough time to adjust to altitude sickness at the visitor center because of a time crunch. They were super strict about light pollution which made me feel kind of unsafe scrabbling around in the dark with poor footing and non-ideal oxygenation at the top of a mountain. Both the activities were running simultaneously and it felt really rushed because people were feeling sick, there was only really time to do one activity fully, and with both activities there was too much cloud cover for the stars. I ended up missing most of it waiting in line for the other activity and trying to adjust to altitude sickness and It was kind of the whole point of the trip for me. The star guide was willing to do a very brief recap but it was not enough for me to have made it worth it to spend 8 hours going to the top of a mountain. This was my main activity of interest when I was signing up for the excursion and I would have prioritized things differently if I had known it was going to be so brief. I appreciate everyone's hard work in getting us to the top. Shout out to one of our tour guides: Valerie - she was very neurodivergent friendly and in tune with people's needs- she did a whole bunch of little extra things to make us comfortable. She made sure everyone got at least one good photo to take home. I also enjoyed the photographer Edward Chav who helped Coach me through what to do with my body for some of the pictures, especially at the observatory which was my favorite stop. The sunset was beautiful, and the clouds were clear at that point in the day.

Pro: Guide was friendly... - Pro: Guide was friendly and knowledgeable. Took us to summit safely. Showed us sunset point and various telescopes. Took our photos. Took us to observation area and showed us various stars and constellations. Cons: No sunset to view due to clouds. Food was ok. I wish healthy trail mix or nuts. 10:30 drop off close to our resort and had to walk 1 mile (30 min) in dark. Wish I would have hotel pick and drop off
