Great Day at Hilo with Alex from Malahini Tours. - Myself and five others in group had a great day on Tuesday 22nd Oct. with Alex Galdones from Malahini Tours. Alex was very knowledgeable, informative and at times with great humor, went over and beyond his duty to make sure we had a great time showing us all the important sites including the Japanese Gardens, Rainbow Falls, The live Kilauea Volcano Caldera, Steam Vents, The Lava Tube, the Black Sand beach at Richardson Ocean Park and even found us a Turtle to take photos of on way back to Hilo. If you're heading to Hilo I would strongly recommend calling Malahini Tours on (808) 315-4212 for a memorable day tour of the island. Cheers, Adam Di Cesare

Great tour and tour guide - We were picked up at the cruise terminal and then went to a nearby hotel to pick up another couple. We had 9 people in our tour group. Our driver, Kimo, was great! Kimo grew up on the big island of Hawaii so he was a wealth of information about Hawaii and the Hawiian culture. He definitely has the aloha spirit and is an excellent ambassador for Hawaii. We visited a beautiful park and downtown Hilo where we learned about Hilo's history. Then we took an informative and enjoyable ride up Mona Loa to the caldera of the volcano. We walked through a lava tube and visited the steam vents of the still active volcano then, we stopped at the Volcano Hotel gift shop where we got to shop and take a short break. Kimo even treated us to some Macadamia nuts. After the Volcano, we went to uptown Hilo where we learned about the tsunami that destroyed old Hilo. From Hilo we were taken to a black sand beach and heard a touching story about it's history. We even got to see where Kimo grew up and spent his youth. This tour was great and Kimo was fantastic! I ŵould do this again and recommend it to anyone.

Malahini Tours - Wonderful Day - Our guide/driver, Alex, gave us first hand accounts and history that made our day more than just a guided tour day. His knowledge of the island and people of Hawaii made it authentic and enjoyable. He was able to connect the whole group (7 of us) into a fun time of fellowship and exploration together. He provided water and allowed us to manage the day as we wished - seeing much more than just the craters and volcanos. I would recommend him to anyone visiting the island. We found him as we were walking from the cruise port this morning and he gave us a full day!

An excellent tour with plenty of time at each stop - We highly recommend this tour! Kimo from Malahini Tours is an excellent driver and tour guide. He allowed us plenty of time at each stop on the tour. He showed us Banyan Drive, the Japanese gardens, Rainbow Falls and then Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. We went through the Thurston Lava Tube and enjoyed the wonderful tropical plants before seeing the steam vents. We spent lots of time at the edge of the volcano crater, which is an amazing sight. We visited Volcano House. We could have skipped Big Island Candy store, but the rest of the day was amazing and truly memorable.

Hilo, Rainbow Falls and Volcano National Park. - Kimo is awesome! So knowledgeable and friendly. Kimo took us through Hilo and told us the history of his Island people then we went to Rainbow Falls before he took us up to Volcano National Park. It was a great experience, much cheaper than going through the ship and there was just 2 couples in the tour! Very intimate.

Excellent Tour and Tour Guide - Dan was our tour guide and did an excellent job. He was very knowledgeable and ensured we had plenty of time at all the stops and answered everyone's questions. Well worth the cost, and I highly recommend this company. This was our first excursion without going through the overpriced cruiseline costs, and we had a great time!! Thank you Dan!!

A wonderful experience with great people. - The drivers and tour organizers were right outside the cruise terminal exit and provided a brief description of where the tour was going, gave us the pricing, and a rough timeline of how long it would take. We agreed and quickly got into the van with another couple, partly for safety reasons. At that point, you never know quite what lies ahead or what is in store for you, whether you've made a good choice or wasted your money or even put yourselves at risk. From the very start, these guys delivered. They were kind, knowledgeable, engaging, full of personality and lore, told personal tales that provided relevance to the area and gave historical perspectives that were extraordinarily fair and balanced given the fact that history can be uncomfortable when truly told. The tour felt comprehensive while also not taking all day and tiring out the participants. If all of us were ready to go, we loaded up and moved on; if we wanted to spend a bit of extra time hanging around a given area or just chatting among the passengers or, increasingly, any of the three drivers that we began to know better at each stop, we lingered a bit longer without being pressured to move things along. The tour moved briskly without feeling hurried or rushed and, before we were even halfway, we all felt like Alex was becoming a personal friend and Dan (kind of the boss, kind of another driver) was already so familiar as to be very familiar to us. All in all, it wad a first-class experience with wonderful people and spectacular scenery. Well worth the money and a very memorable outing.
