Arrive at the southernmost bakery in the United States, famous worldwide for its sweet breads, malasadas (Portuguese fried dough, similar to a donut), and other delightful treats. Enjoy a complimentary coffee or tea and select a malasada before continuing to explore the island’s most beautiful black sand beach.
• Punalu’u Black Sand Beach - Known as one of the most beautiful black sand beaches in the Hawaiian Islands, the sand here is formed from volcanic glass created by the rapid cooling of basaltic lava meeting ocean water, then breaking into tiny pieces. Experience the soothing sensation of black sand beneath your feet while listening to the wind rustling through the palms and over the water. The guide will be on the lookout for green sea turtles and endangered hawksbill sea turtles that often visit the beach.
• Hawaii Volcanoes National Park - This renowned park includes the summits of two of the world’s most active volcanoes and stretches from sea level to the summit of Mauna Loa at 13,677 feet.
