After pickup from your hotel, embark on your journey to the lush rainforests that populate the east side of the island. Cruise along Highway 19 and pass though the town of Waimea,
From Waimea, travel along the eastern flank of Mauna Kea volcano, commonly known as the famous Hamakua Coast. Stop at Laupahoehoe for a visual example of the Pacific Ocean’s powerful ability to carve rugged pinnacles.
Continue along jungle roads to Akaka Falls. After lunch, head toward Hilo along some of the island’s most scenic backroads wind along through lush jungle gorges and past epic ocean vistas.
Cap your tour with a visit to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, and Kilauea volcano. Gaze into Kilauea’s vast summit caldera. Travel the east rift zone of Kilauea along Chain of Craters road and lava flows old and new. Enjoy plenty of time to look around.

Big Island day trip. - Had a great day with our guide seeing the sights and learning the history of the island. We saw waterfalls; the volcano, the beach and everything in between. We even stopped at the famous Tex for Malasadas.. and they’re delicious. It was a wonderful experience.

Exceptional tour, attentive guide - This was an unbelievable experience and an incredible way to see so much of the Big Island! Scott was an extremely knowledgeable, professional guide. He described each site as we travelled so we understood the history and learned how each region connected with the rest of the island. He checked in with us throughout the day to make sure we were having a great time and had all of the water and photos we wanted. This tour was phenomenal and the highlight of our trip!

Amazing and educational tour - This was an amazing and educational tour. We got to experience the many eco systems of the island. From the leeward dry side with volcano rocks to the grazing livestock to the windward lush green side. The Malasadas were a bonus! Traveling through history to see where plantations were and the railroad while learning about the different topography of the land. Scott was a subject matter expert and we learned so much. Experiencing waterfalls, the ocean, bubbling lava, lava tubes, and so much more. Thank you Scott for an amazing experiencing!

Knowledgeable tour guide - This was an excellent tour. The tour guide was helpful, courteous and very knowledgeable. The various locations we visited helped to provide an understanding of the various climates and geological features of the island.

Wow! What a great day out! - Highly recommend this tour with Scott in the Volcano Van. Scott's knowledge of Volcanoes is incredible and has so much to tell you about this lovely island. It's a long day, but the van is comfortable and there are plenty of stops along the way. We visited beaches with turtles, a stunning waterfall, an active volcano, and saw some amazing scenery. Scott was a great guide and his enthusiasm is infectious. Nothing is too much trouble. Thankyou for a day we will never forget.

An enjoyable tour with a... - An enjoyable tour with a friendly and knowledgeable driver/guide. The small group size made the tour more personal and gave us a comfortable ride. Great scenery and experiences across a large part of the island.

Educational and fun! - This is a great way to see the big island of Hawaii! Scott has a depth of knowledge regarding the volcanoes, cultural aspects of the island and fun facts! Take this tour and you’ll be amazed at what there is to see on this island besides the volcanoes and rainforest - which are magnificent!

Scott was knowledgable... - Scott was knowledgable about the history of the big island and volcanos. However, we were not able to accomplish seeing all the popular locations this tour mentioned it would. We went to 2 other stops that were not part of the itinerary (and we didn't care to see). It was poor planning..the lava tube and black sand beach were places we really wanted to see but because there was a long line to find parking at the lava tube, Scott did not want to wait. We would've gladly skipped out on the malasadas and 2 other places (black rocks and bridge over water), to spend time at the lava tube and black beach. There was no time for both. He ended up giving us an option to go to another small lava tube (pitch dark with a flashlight). It did not make up for us missing 2 of the locations we paid to see. You would think as a tour guide of 13 years, you would know how busy the lava tube can get at certain hours...it should've been planned better and prioritized. So disappointed! Also, Scott was driving while looking down on his phone!! super unsafe and unprofessional. There were parts of the trip he was with us but was on his phone constantly. He is supposed to be our tour guide. I wished there was a way he could've just given us a time to explore on our own and meet back at his van. The lunch wrap (which we ate inside the van) was just from the market...We definitely felt this tour was not worth the price. You'll find better.
