Amazing local food tour with Erol - This was a great experience. Erol was waiting for us at the meeting point and took us on a wonderful food tour. Not only did Erol show us a wine variety of local foods, but explained the cultural context and gave us a lot of historical background. Everything was at a great pace. The portions were perfect. Errol was a great guide and an interesting eating companion.

Thorough, insightful and delicious introduction to Turkish cuisine through the lens and humor of a friendly guide - We booked a small tour, and were lucky enough to get a private one with Kim. She met us in Karakoy, and we worked our way through Pera to Taksim. On the way, we had many mezes, mussels with rice (my favorite), fish wrap, raki and many more.

Personal, tailored to us, great local food stops - We had a wonderful evening with Tolga as our guide. We were so surprised it was only us two on the tour with him (getting into low season for tourism), it felt so personal and able to be catered to our interests. We stopped at a restaurant for mezze (appetizers) and raki, then weaved through many stops over the next 3.5 hours. Some food stalls, coffee stall, some other sit down restaurants, and dessert last. Tolga made sure to find a special dessert for me that I was wanting to try, and also found a grocery store so I could buy a fruit I liked that we don't have in the US. It all felt very special and we appreciated the time and care he put into connecting with us and making sure we had a good time. Highly recommend booking with him!

Good Tour Generally but Beware the Location and Weekends - The food tour was generally good, the guide, Erol, was very good, he was interesting and engaging and provided excellent information on the history and culture in relation to the delicious food we tasted. However, we should not have chosen Saturday evening for this tour as the area was very intimidating with a high police presence and we felt extremely vulnerable. Also we started the tour in Karakoy but it ended a long way away, in the dangerous area of Taksim, so we had to make our way back on our own which was a bit scary and we regretted having booked this tour as a result. 2 older ladies on the tour stuck with us as they were quite scared on their own. The tour should end where it starts and I think Friday and Saturday nights should be avoided in this area.

Istanbul Food Tour - We have gone on many food tours in different cities, this was by far the most dissatisfied one, I'm sorry to say. The food that it provided just did not justify for the amount charged. A roadside coffee stall stop counted as one course and many were just cheap eats and not so good. However, the hostess was very nice.
