Potbelly Hill - Gobekli Tepe is one of the world’s most significant archaeological sites. Dating back 12,000 years, it predates written records and pottery, and is considered the world’s oldest ritual complex. This fascinating site is reshaping archaeologists’ understanding of early human history and is a must-visit.
Sanliurfa Archeology and Mosaic Museum - Enjoy a delicious kebab lunch before exploring Sanliurfa. The city has been inhabited since the time of the Babylonians, followed by the Hurrites, Hittites, Assyrians, and Greeks. Visitors will explore the Urfa Archaeological Museum and Aleppo Bahce Mosaic Museum, which house extensive collections from the Harran and Gobeklitepe areas. A walk through Sanliurfa’s local covered bazaar and town will reveal many hidden treasures.
Reji Kilisesi - Reji Church, a historical and cultural gem of Şanlıurfa, offers an unforgettable experience. Built in 1861 on the ruins of a 6th-century church, it was dedicated to Jesus’ two apostles and bears their names. The church was used until 1924, when Assyrians from Urfa migrated to Aleppo, Syria. Later, it served as a tobacco factory and grape warehouse under the Tekel administration, earning the name “Regie Church” from the French word for Tekel. Inscribed tombstones from the church are displayed in the Urfa Museum. Reji Church is a must-visit for people of all faiths.
Balikligol - Visit Abraham’s cave, the birthplace of the prophet Abraham, and the Pool of Prophet Abraham, believed to be where Prophet Abraham was cast into the fire by Nimrod.
Continue Visit Sanliurfa and Return to Istanbul
KIzIlkoyun Nekropolu - The Kızılkoyun Caves, a historical and cultural treasure of Şanlıurfa, offer an unforgettable experience. Dating back 2,000 years to the Roman and Byzantine periods, the site includes rock tombs used by the Edessa Kingdom’s royal family. The Kızılkoyun Necropolis features two Roman Era statues and a limestone sarcophagus. The 1.85-meter-tall statues, found in studies, date back to the 3rd-4th century A.D. and depict Roman Era soldiers in oriental attire with military equipment. Made of limestone, the region’s characteristic stone, the caves attract many visitors.
Harran Kalesi - Harran Castle, located southeast of the city, comprises the “Inner Castle” and “Lower Wall.” The Inner Castle, built adjacent to the city wall, features a rectangular plan with dodecagonal towers at its corners. Measuring 90 by 130 meters, the castle has three floors and a Sabian temple. The current form of the castle was established by Umayyad Caliph II. Mervan, who spent 10 million dirhams of gold on its construction. Researchers suggest the castle had 50 corridors and 150 rooms. The circular “outer castle” walls, 4 kilometers long and 5 meters high, have towers ranging from 15-17 meters. The castle has six gates: Aleppo, Raqqa, Aslanli, Mosul, Baghdad, and Anatolia, with only the Aleppo Gate remaining today.
Sanliurfa - After the final stop of the tour, guests will be taken to Sanliurfa airport for a return flight to Istanbul at 20:30. Upon arrival in Istanbul, a staff member will meet guests at the airport and transport them to their hotel. The tour concludes here.
