Kakadu National Park - The adventure begins with a pick-up from Darwin accommodation, followed by a picturesque drive to Kakadu National Park. The first stop is at the South Alligator River, where diverse birdlife can be observed, and there might be a chance to see a saltwater crocodile lounging on the riverbanks. As the journey continues deeper into Kakadu, the Burrungkuy (Nourlangie) Rock Art Site is visited, famous for its ancient Aboriginal rock art galleries. Nearby, Anbangbang Billabong provides a peaceful setting to observe water birds and enjoy the natural beauty. A short drive leads to Nawurlandja Lookout, offering stunning panoramic views. Further exploration of Aboriginal culture takes place at the Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre. As the day concludes, the magic of Kakadu’s wetlands is experienced with a Yellow Water Sunset Cruise. Glide along the calm waters, surrounded by lush landscapes and abundant wildlife, as the setting sun paints the sky in shades of orange and pink.
Kakadu National Park - Ubirr Region
Kakadu National Park - After a delightful campfire breakfast, the journey heads north to explore Ubirr, another significant Aboriginal rock art site where intricate artworks adorn rock shelters, narrating stories of creation and daily life spanning thousands of years. A walk through this multi-level art site leads to Nadab Lookout, offering sweeping views over the floodplains and Arnhem Land escarpment. After lunch, the Guluyambi Cultural Cruise on the East Alligator River is embarked upon with a local Aboriginal guide who shares cultural insights and traditional stories. This unique experience also provides the opportunity to step into Arnhem Land, as well as a visit to Cahills Crossing. Afterwards, Jabiru Township is visited for a glimpse of modern life in Kakadu, and the Marrawuddi Art Gallery is explored, showcasing contemporary Aboriginal art from the region, before returning to Mardukal Campground for another night immersed in the natural beauty of Kakadu.
Southern Kakadu National Park - Off the Beaten Track
Kakadu National Park - The day’s adventure begins with a visit to Maguk (Barramundi Gorge), where a short hike through monsoon forest leads to a pristine swimming hole surrounded by towering cliffs. Enjoy a refreshing dip in the cool waters or simply relax amidst the tranquil surroundings. The journey continues south, with a visit to Ikoymarrwa (Moline Rockhole), another hidden gem offering a quieter experience in Kakadu’s rugged landscapes. En route, a stop at Pine Creek Township allows for a stretch of the legs and an opportunity to learn about the region’s mining history before settling in for the night at Gorge View or Nitmiluk Campground, enjoying the serenity of the surroundings.
Nitmiluk National Park
Nitmiluk National Park - The exploration of Nitmiluk National Park begins, home to the spectacular Katherine Gorge. Arriving early, the Nit Nit Dreaming Cruise is boarded, navigating the tranquil waters flanked by towering sandstone cliffs, and learning about the gorge’s geological formations, cultural significance, and the Dreamtime stories of the Jawoyn people who have called this area home for thousands of years. After the cruise, the nearby Katherine Hot Springs are visited for a relaxing soak in the natural thermal pools, surrounded by lush greenery. Then, the journey continues to Leliyn (Edith Falls), where swimming in crystal-clear pools fed by cascading waterfalls offers a refreshing break. Later in the afternoon, the journey proceeds to Adelaide River, where the night is spent at Mount Bundy Station, a historic cattle station offering a taste of outback hospitality and a chance to unwind after a day filled with natural wonders.
Litchfield National Park
Litchfield National Park - The visit to Litchfield National Park begins. The first destination is the Magnetic and Cathedral Termite Mounds, intriguing formations crafted by nature’s smallest architects. The journey continues to Florence Falls, where swimming beneath the cascading waterfall or unwinding on the rocks surrounded by lush monsoon forest is possible. This tranquil oasis invites visitors to soak in the beauty and serenity of Litchfield National Park. Next, a refreshing swim at Buley Rockhole, a series of picturesque cascading rock pools, offers the perfect spot for a revitalizing dip to feel the cool, crystal-clear waters amidst the serene natural surroundings. Following this is Wangi Falls, one of Litchfield’s most iconic attractions. Enjoy a swim in the expansive plunge pool, take a walk to the viewing platform, or simply relax in the shaded picnic area, soaking up the breathtaking scenery.
