Great interactive museum - We really enjoyed the museum. We loved that many of the exhibits were interactive. Really loved being able to sit inside the Trabant and to see inside a makeshift home from the GDR. That was really good.

Very interesting tour. Do not miss it. - This is an excellent museum detailing life in East Berlin during the time of the Wall. It was one of the highlights of our trip to Berlin and we would highly recommend it. It is suitable for children and adults alike.

The DDR Museum: Exploring the Past Through a Time Traveler’s Lens - I had the opportunity to visit the DDR Museum in Berlin during my trip to Germany in October 2023 with my dad. We were eager to explore the history of East Germany and gain insight into life behind the Iron Curtain. As we approached the museum, we were greeted by the striking architecture that hinted at the fascinating exhibits inside. The DDR Museum was an experience unlike anything I have seen before. It was truly impactful, immersing us in the everyday realities of life in East Germany before the fall of the Berlin Wall. The interactive displays allowed us to step into replicas of East German apartments, where we could see the living conditions firsthand. It felt as if I had stepped into a time machine with Marty McFly, landing inside an East German communist apartment. The environment felt and looked incredibly real. Sitting inside the iconic Trabant car was a highlight, and everything about the exhibit was meticulously crafted. We found ourselves captivated by the stories of ordinary people, showcasing how they navigated the challenges of everyday life. Let’s not forget the personal accounts that filled the museum. Hearing the voices of those who lived through this era added an emotional layer to the experience. The museum does an excellent job of blending history with personal narratives, making it a thought-provoking experience. We left with a deeper understanding of the complexities of life in East Germany. If you find yourself in Berlin and want to explore an essential part of German history, don’t miss out on the DDR Museum. It is like unlocking a door to a world that many have forgotten. You will leave with a new perspective on the past.

Good but too crowded - The museum itself is very interesting and worth a visit. However whilst I can understand it is popular so will be very busy it felt like very little was done to help this. Due to the way the museum is laid out with most things behind flaps etc you are always waiting for people to finish what they are looking at before you can move on yourself. Most other museums in Berlin have timeslots that helps with this but that did not seem the case on the Saturday I went in November. It is still well worth a visit just pick your time very carefully.

Def Do Read - I’m giving this museum three stars solely due to how busy it was. They really need a timed entry to make it more manageable - it is not very big but they do let lot of people in at once - or at least they did the day I was there. Despite this - it is very interesting. It gives you an insight into how they lived in the DDR and even have a replica flat which was pretty cool. There’s a vast range of information and items for you to explore and read. The shop at the end also has a decent selection. NB - if you have an All Inclusive Berlin Welcome Card you can scan your barcode and go straight in. You don’t need to queue to enter - we made that mistake.

Not everything that's been said to be true. Some furniture only from the early 70s - I promised myself more from the exhibition. I am an East German child (born 1970) and found the worst that it is claimed that the children learned to count with tanks and soldiers. That's not true at all. My kindergarten room didn't look so terrible either. Furniture from the 70s stood there. The clothes weren't like that for 20 years either. I am convinced that in the West there were no other furniture in the households. But the GDR existed until 1989. No furniture from that time from the 80s. No products (detergent, cleaning supplies, typical dishes). It's too bad.

Looks good and probably is but far too busy - This museum looked very good but was so disappointing because there were far far too many people in. Visited Sunday 27/10. Museum organisers should control entry so people can actually get to see and experience the exhibits. I was so disappointed as I could see there were plenty of things to open/ touch etc but there is no point being an interactive museum if you’re going to let so many people in. It was uncomfortably cramped. I see other people have said the same. Museum organisers - need to take note. Such a shame and it wasn’t cheap. If this museum looks interesting to you I’d think about day and time of visiting and certainly not on a Sunday.

Underwhelmed and over crowded. - We were really looking forward to this museum but we were very disappointed. It doesn’t feel like a museum and is one room that isn’t very big. It was far too crowded so you couldn’t properly get in to read everything or to interact with what they had out. It was far too noisy because of the number of people allowed in at one time. There was no order to the way you went round it so it was very easy to miss things. We stayed around 20 minutes as we were so underwhelmed. Wouldn’t recommend.

Disappointing - The museum is small. There were a lot of people. The information on the posters was often ironic, which I did not like. They show you, as if it were something strange or special, a lot of the things we always had in my house. I consider it a museum with superficial information.
