Highlights

Begin your exploration of the real Berlin by meeting your guide at noon in central Berlin. During your comprehensive 4.5-hour walking tour, you’ll go off the beaten path and see aspects of Berlin most tourists miss. Because of the more relaxed pace of a small-group tour, you’ll have more opportunities to capture photos and ask your knowledgeable local guide questions.

Visit well-known neighborhoods such as Prenzlauer Berg, Mitte and Friedrichshain. Tour the colorful Turkish area of Kreuzberg and the city’s Jewish community. View contemporary and underground art galleries, urban farms, guerilla gardens and organic markets.

Learn the origins of currywurst, a popular German fast food of fried pork sausage with curry-seasoned ketchup, and Doner kebab, a Turkish gyro first served in Berlin. You’ll also see Prater Garten Berlin, the city’s oldest beer garden.

As you wander around town, your guide will point out sites related to various countercultural movements, including the student protest movement of the 1960s, the rise and fall of the Baader-Meinhof gang in the 1970s and the punk movement and May 1 riots of the 1980s. See mind-blowing street art, graffiti and murals all over town. Learn about the electronic dance musical festival called the Love Parade and the hip-hop, reggae and rasta scene of Yaam Beach.

By the time your in-depth cultural tour of Berlin concludes at Yaam Beach, you’ll know much more about the history, neighborhoods and alternative scenes of this fascinating city.

Toptour! - Maybe the most memorabel part of this tour was the guide called Reese. Never stops talking with passion, little blackhumoristic accents and a healthy dose of rebellion. The perfect guide for this tour

Not your typical history - We learned so much about Berlin as a city and these neighborhoods throughout the tour, and not just the sanitized and governmental view of what was happening here after the war. I loved learning about the individuals who have fought oppression and set a legacy for resistance in the neighborhoods in many different ways.

Super Interesting! - What a great tour! We spent the day before seeing all of the historical sights, so this was a great way to see the city through a different perspective. Ben was AWESOME!! Great personality, engaging, good sense of humor, and very informative. Highly recommend!

Delightful - Very enjoyable experience. I have been living in Berlin just under 10 years and took this tour to look at the city from a different angle and I have to say it was a delightful walk with very nice stories about places and culture. Can only recommend it to others.

Wonderful "Off the beaten path" Tour with Arnie - What was a blustery, scattered showers day amounted to a comfortable, chat-filled excursion with tourists, Berliners and our tour guide, Arnie. I was somewhat skeptical at first, as Arnie was seemingly a bit shy at the start - introductions, where we're from, etc. - but I soon became impressed with his story-telling ability and sense of history and historical perspective. Arnie touched on - in my mind - all the most prescient topics: Berlin first mentioned in the annals, strife at the end of Weimar, of course WWII, but even more interesting: how the Communist stronghold of Berlin held out against the Nazi and how, later in the century, essentially squatted in the newly empty apartments after the fall of the Wall. Fascinating stuff, and we were more than entertained. I would wholeheartedly recommend this tour for visitors and natives of Berlin.
