Duration: 6 hours

Highlights
  • The Eagle’s Nest - The Eagle’s Nest is located in the imposing summit of the Kehlstein mountain. Even to this date not such place has being build. People taking the tour will discover all the history behind its construction, win insight about the role it plays today in society and have the opportunity to explore the incredible landscapes of the Bavarian Alps.
  • Parkplatz Obersalzberg - Dokumentationszentrum - This part of the tour is unique because the location is so rich historically, only if you know where to look. We will hike around the area of Obersalzberg, the place where Hitler and many other high ranking officers had their houses. The tour will give an insight of the historical importance of that area, how it was transformed into a nazi town and what decisions where taken there that affected the life of millions.

Additional Information

The first time Easy Company, part of the 101st Airborne Division, reached the hills of Obersalzberg, most of the buildings in the area were destroyed. Today, if you visit, you’ll notice significant changes: the forest has reclaimed much of the land, and a large parking area now guides visitors up the mountain. This tour aims to provide extensive insights into the historical sites hidden within the forest, including the ruins of Hitler’s house and other WWII landmarks that bring history to life. From there, you can hike up to the Eagle’s Nest, retracing the steps of the first American soldiers who arrived on foot in May 1945. Although the Eagle’s Nest is one of Germany’s most visited sites, our tour takes a richer, less-traveled path. This experience combines world history, physical activity, and breathtaking landscapes. I take pride in offering the best possible experience, ensuring professional and safe guidance in the mountains within a relaxed atmosphere.

Excellent Day - Claudio was entertaining, knowledgeble, and prepared. We had a great time. The walk is over decent quality paths. There is significant elevation gain. Typical incline was around 7 degrees - sometimes a bit more, sometimes less. Walk was almost exactly 4 miles and took us a bit over 2 hours. We are fit but casual hikers. Youndon't hike all the waynto the Eagles Nest, instead younultimately arrive at a tunnel whichnleqds to an elecator that takes you to the Nest, from which the views are spectacular. We took the bus back down at about 25 euros each, rather than walk back down. A most pleasant way to spend the day.

Truly unique and a highlight of our trip! - Incredible tour! We learned so much from Claudio. The hike was challenging at times but highly rewarding. Claudio adjusted the speed and took breaks often (mainly for me in our group) but was highly encouraging and kind enough to say we made “great time” when we reached the elevators. I cannot imagine seeing Kehlstein or Eagle’s Nest any other way- you miss so much if you don’t hike the area with Claudio as your guide. He is incredibly knowledgeable, explaining not only what happened and when, but helping you understand some of the why and how things happened the way they did. Even a WWII history buff will learn so much from Claudio and experiencing the Site through hiking. If we’re able to make it back we would absolutely book this tour again- I’m confident we’d learn more from Claudio.

Book it! - Claudio was a great guide! He had a ton of knowledge about the area and he was able to answer many questions. He showed us some interesting infrastructure that we would’ve missed if we had taken the bus. Claudio set a great pace for the hike. My Apple Watch calculated the hike as 5.7km with 710meters elevation gain. Definitely a doable hike. I did the hike in a pair of running shoes no problem. I could see the trail getting quite muddy if it had rained a lot though. A very enjoyable day and I learned a lot from Claudio!

Reward was worth the effort - Ok, a couple things. Claudio is amazing - great guide and very knowledgeable. I’m still giving this 5 stars, but lease be aware that this hike - while on a nice trail, mostly paved, is strenuous. Just over 4 miles and 2500 vertical feet. Very worthwhile, but not for the faint of heart.

Best way to visit Eagle’s Nest!! - Loved the hike up the mountain! Best way to visit The Eagle’s Nest and Obersalzberg. Claudio is such a wonderful guide and provided us with so much knowledge on the tour and shared many historical photos to add to his stories. We hiked up in the mist and it started to pour rain at the top. It was looking pretty dismal to see any kind of view but after lunch the clouds parted and we were lucky to see incredible views! One of the best days of our trip!

The Eagle’s Nest: A Hike with History - This tour was amazing. The Nazi and Hitler history is so disturbing, but must be taught and discussed. Our guide, Claudio, was honest and straightforward about Germany in the early 20th century, the post-World War I political and economic powers that gave rise to Hitler, and the realities of Nazism for those who weren’t of “German” blood. He also helped us learn more about American involvement in post WWII Europe - up to the current day. All that as we hiked four hours up to Kehlstein and Kehlsteinhaus (The Eagle’s Nest). Stunningly beautiful scenery and once at the top - WOW!! That was definitely worth the effort. And I’m so grateful for Claudio’s expertise and real genuine friendliness. I can’t recommend this highly enough.
