Then, you will board a boat for a sightseeing river ride, where you’ll get to observe birds, orchids, water lilies and possibly crocodiles. You will pass near the Amish community of shipyard, before you arrive at the new river lagoon at the footsteps of the Ancient city of Lamanai.

Your guide will then lead you through forest paths, where you will look at huge Guanacaste trees and the Cohune palm forest, and listen to the sounds of the howler monkeys. Your next stop will be the Mask Temple, where you will have the opportunity to take photos and go up the top, and get a panoramic view of the plaza down below. Next, you will go on a 5 minute walk through the forest path to see the High Temple. Your guide will explain the secrets revealed through excavations at the site, before providing you with the opportunity to climb to the top and see all of the Northern Belize lowlands and small villages.

Following you descent, you will head to the Ball Court and the Altar in the center. Your guide will shed light on the findings and the ritual game. You will then pass through the residential area and see the famous Stela #9, which features an intricate carved drawing of the Lamanai dynasty and its ruler, Lord Smoking Shell. Moving along, you will next visit the Jaguar Temple, where you get to see the mask of the Jaguar on the Temple Wall.

You will then stop for lunch. Next, you’ll visit the on-site museum to see some of the Red clay pots with drawings on them that were used at Lamanai. Likewise, you will see Altars and stelas now housed in the facility. Your tour will conclude with drop-off.

Beautiful experience at Lamani - We are so happy we booked an inland tour with V.i.V tours! We were staying on the island of San Pedro and took the water taxi into Belize City. We were greeted immediately after exiting the water taxi and our driver took us out to the water boat to start our excursion. Our driver, Narciso was so friendly and knowledgeable, the drive out felt like it was a tour itself. The boat ride to Lamani was one of our favorite parts. Diana was an incredible boat driver and made the ride enjoyable. We stopped so see animals along the way. Lamani is a breathtaking Mayan Ruin site with impeccably preserved ruins. We were nearly the only ones on the tour so it felt like we had the place to ourselves. We had a great time seeing and listening to the howler monkeys throughout the ruins. It was a nice break to get to experience such a magnificent place. We would highly recommend taking an inland tour with V.i.V.

Excellent day trip Lamanai! - This was an excellent tour, and our guide, Amir, was so knowledgeable. He was very good with my parents who are in their 70s. He took his time when they needed to rest and the food was absolutely wonderful!

Jump at the chance to step back in time - Despite the hour long drive to/from our starting point in a rather uncomfortable van and an interesting but also very long cruise out and back on the river in an uncomfortable boat, the Mayan Ruins were stunning and awesome. Our guide was delightfully personable, stunningly well-informed about the ruins but also the wild life, flora and fauna. Lots of walking (which we enjoyed despite the heat and humidity). The grilled chicken, ceviche and chips and slaw salad tasted great at the end of our walk.
