Highlights
  • Shankill Road - history of the area. We begin in 1690, when King William the 3rd arrived in Ireland to defeat King James the 2nd at the famous Battle Of The Boyne. There will then be an explanation about the recent troubles, which started in 1969 and ended when the peace agreement was signed in 1998.

You will be guided through the heart of Loyalist walk around the area, where your guide will explain the loyalist wall murals and what they depict. You will have the opportunity to take your own photographs of the loyalalist murals.

  • Peace Wall - The peace walls were designed to separate the Catholic (Republicans) and Protestant (Loyalist) populations. The first ‘peace lines’ were erected, following the outbreak of War also known as the 1969 “The Troubles”.

They were built as temporary structures, meant to last only six months. Due to their effective nature they were built higher, longer and made permanent. Today, the walls are adorned with art and messages of hope from tourists.

  • Falls Road - Visit the famous Falls road the birth place of the Provisional IRA was formed. Each section of this road and its political mural will be explained in detail and the reasons it exists.

Informative and respectful - Our tour guide Sean did a wonderful job of guiding us around Belfast and explaining the entire history of Northern Island which led to ‘The Troubles’. He thoroughly explained every site that he took us to, gave us time to absorb it and answered all of our questions. We are very glad that we did this tour, as it gave the three of us a much better understanding of what has been endured here for a long time. Thankyou

A great way to feel the history - Two of us took the personal tour 9/13/24 with Jim and his co-guide Polly. He maneuvered us all around the major sites and filled in all the details. He provided details from both sides of the Troubles and answered all our questions. Definitely recommend if you have knowledge of the Troubles or are just learning. Jim was full of info and we thoroughly enjoyed.

Almost wasn't - Our scheduled tour guide cancelled with us the night before we went to Belfast. Fortunately we came across another guide at the train station who happened to be available. He was amazing and the tour was great

Mandatory. - Appreciate peace. This is the lesson I walked away with. Sean was amazing, a historian & storyteller. There is no way a person could experience Belfast & and its tender & tenuous history if on their own. An absolute must do.

Black Cab Tours - Would recommend. Very informative. I had no idea how bad it had been but the tour gave us a good idea. We also had some time in the Irish Republican History Museum which was very interesting. Our guide, Jim answered all of our questions and provided an unbiased opinion of events.

A must for every Belfast visitor - It was an incredible tour. Mal drove us to all the important places and his knowledge was inexhaustible! His knowledge combined with the stories are what makes this tour so special. We really enjoyed having a taxi and the driver just for ourselves, which made the whole trip very intense! I can only recommend this tour to everyone. Thank you very much Mal (from the three Germans!)
