This is the go-to hike of the Great Wall surrounding Beijing, showcasing both undeveloped and renovated parts of the Wall at Simatai West and Jinshanling in just 3 hours. The journey to the Wall starts from the Kylin Tower in Simatai West, continuing westward towards Jinshanling. We will descend from the Wall at Shalingkou, Jinshanling, yet if you have the energy, you could hike an extra 30 minutes before descending at Zhuanduokou. The unrefurbished Wall with its watch and beacon towers winds east to west along the mountains. Enjoy the opportunity to make friends with local farmers, sample home-cooked local cuisine, and get an insight into local community life. It’s a photography enthusiast’s paradise along the Wall. As for the level of difficulty, the hike is moderately challenging and suitable for all ages.

- Children under 5 are not allowed to take this tour
- Vegetarian option is available, please advise at time of booking if required
- There is no toilet along the path on the Wall. There are toilets at the entrance of Simatai West and Jinshanling. Please prepare before hiking and always carry toilet paper by yourself.
- Please don’t make any appointment after the trip as the return depending on the traffic between 5-6 pm.
- Unlimited bottled waters are stored in our car/van today, and you need a day pack to carry them.
- We will bring trekking poles in our car/van and please tell your guide if you need one.
- Travel insurance is optional and is the sole responsibility of travellers. It is encouraged to have coverage of injury or accident.
- As responsible travelers, we “take nothing but photos, leave nothing but footprint”.

Just back from the most incredible trip to Beijing with Conquer Hiking & Great Wall Trekking — and WOW, what an experience! 😍
Our guide Cheney was an absolute legend 🙌 — he got to know each of us, tailored every day to our food faves 🍜 and activity styles 💃, and took us off the beaten track to explore hidden gems of the Great Wall 🏯🌄.
Every day was packed with action, laughter, and authentic Beijing magic ✨. From dumpling-making to jungle hikes, it was the perfect mix of culture, challenge, and fun 💪🎉.
We rode rickshaws through the Hutongs 🚲, devoured traditional hotpot 🍲 and Beijing crispy duck that melted in your mouth 🦆🤤, tried our hand at Chinese calligraphy ✍️🖌️, and were blown away by an acrobat show that was truly out of this world 🤸♀️🎪.
And after those epic walking days, Cheney arranged for 11 masseurs to come to our rooms for the ultimate recovery session 💆♀️🧖♀️ — talk about luxury!
I travelled with 9 amazing girls and Stu 💃🕺 — what a crew! 💖 The memories, the views, the bonding… just fabulous.

Unforgettable hiking experience - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5-Star Experience – A Trip of a Lifetime!
We’ve just returned from an unforgettable 12 day trip .. 5 days hiking in the breathtaking Beijing region, and I can honestly say it exceeded every expectation we had. From start to finish, the service was absolutely 5-star — professional, well-organised, and delivered with warmth and care.
The itinerary was perfectly planned: fun-packed, varied, and full of memorable experiences. Each day offered something new — incredible scenery, fascinating landmarks, and a deeper look into the history and culture of this amazing part of China. There was never a dull moment, and every detail was taken care of so all we had to do was enjoy the adventure.
A special mention must go to Chenney, our guide, who truly made the trip exceptional. Their knowledge of the area’s history and traditions brought every stop to life, and their passion for sharing it was infectious. What really stood out was the balance — every day was packed with facts and stories, but also laughter, fun, and light-hearted moments that made the experience even more memorable.
Whether you’re an experienced hiker or a curious traveller looking to explore China’s wonders, I cannot recommend this experience enough. It was the perfect blend of adventure, culture, history, and fun — and one we’ll remember forever.

Amazing experience - What an amazing trip we have just had durning our time at the Great Wall of China and Beijing city. Every day was full of fun and adventure, we wouldn’t have had such an incredible time if it weren’t for Cheney our guide. He was passionate, kind and extremely knowledgeable. The best way to see the Wall! - This was a great tour to see the wall with very few people! Dewit was a great tour guide, very knowledgeable! Highly recommend if you have the whole day available for the tour. Getting photos with no one else in them is pretty special! Lunch was delicious!

Amazing experience - I joined a trek on the Great Wall at Jinshanling with Dewit and it was an unforgettable experience. Dewit was an excellent guide who made the hike both enjoyable and informative. He knew the best spots for views and photos, shared history along the way, and encouraged me during the tougher sections. The pace was perfect, giving time to take in the scenery without feeling rushed. His friendly personality and knowledge made the day even more special. I would highly recommend Dewit to anyone wanting a memorable and well guided Great Wall adventure.

Amazing experience - Amazing trip was had for 6 days hiking along the Great Wall. Was only made possible due to our amazing guide Cheney. He allowed us to see parts of the wall away from any other tourists. A great trip and would recommend to anyone.

An incredible Beijing highlight - This hiking tour of the great wall was the highlight of my Beijing trip!
I had been to other sections of the wall before and this is by far the best one. The views are unbelievable and you actually get to walk through a large section of the wall (22 tower posts). We were a small group of 3, and our guide Luis was amazing, very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. 100% recommend this experience

The Best Way to Experience the Great Wall—Jinshanling! - An absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish! I met up with my guide, Dewit, at the station and we set off for Jinshanling. Upon arrival, we began our ascent toward the East Five Window Tower, a 30-minute climb that opened up to stunning views. From there, we continued west to Brick Crenel Tower (2 hours +/-).
What made this hike so special was the peace and quiet—unlike the crowded sections of Badaling or Mutianyu, we practically had the Wall to ourselves. Jinshanling truly feels like a hidden gem. Dewit was a wealth of knowledge, sharing history and insights along the way, while also pacing the hike with well-timed rest stops. He even brought along an apple and a Snickers bar for each of us—a thoughtful energy boost right when it was needed!
The route offered a mix of wild and restored sections of the Wall, with refreshment stands, souvenir stalls, and restrooms along the way. Near the end of the hike, Dewit surprised me with a certificate commemorating my climb. I had also purchased a medal at one of the shops, and together they made for a perfect keepsake photo.
After descending, we capped the day with a delicious local Chinese lunch before heading back to Beijing.
Huge thanks to Dewit for making this such a memorable experience! If you’re debating where to go, skip the crowded sections and head to Jinshanling—you’ll get breathtaking views, a more authentic hike, and an experience you’ll never forget.
TL;DR: Amazing hike at Jinshanling with my guide Dewit—peaceful, scenic, and far less crowded than the popular spots. Great mix of history, nature, and adventure, topped off with a tasty local lunch. A true hidden gem!

Great tour, great guide! - Our guide, Luis, was amazing! The entire tour was great. He was flexible adapting the tour to the groups needs and told us a lot of information about the Great Wall. This section is definetly the most beautiful one and there was almost no one there. Just Perfect!
