This is the go-to hike of the Great Wall surrounding Beijing, showcasing both undeveloped and renovated parts of the Wall at Simatai West and Jinshanling in just 3 hours. The journey to the Wall starts from the Kylin Tower in Simatai West, continuing westward towards Jinshanling. We will descend from the Wall at Shalingkou, Jinshanling, yet if you have the energy, you could hike an extra 30 minutes before descending at Zhuanduokou. The unrefurbished Wall with its watch and beacon towers winds east to west along the mountains. Enjoy the opportunity to make friends with local farmers, sample home-cooked local cuisine, and get an insight into local community life. It’s a photography enthusiast’s paradise along the Wall. As for the level of difficulty, the hike is moderately challenging and suitable for all ages.

- Vegetarian option is available, please advise at time of booking if required
- There is no toilet along the path on the Wall. There are toilets at the entrance of Simatai West and Jinshanling. Please prepare before hiking and always carry toilet paper by yourself.
- Please don’t make any appointment after the trip as the return depending on the traffic between 5-6 pm.
- Unlimited bottled waters are stored in our car/van today, and you need a day pack to carry them.
- We will bring trekking poles in our car/van and please tell your guide if you need one.
- Travel insurance is optional and is the sole responsibility of travellers. It is encouraged to have coverage of injury or accident.
- As responsible travelers, we “take nothing but photos, leave nothing but footprint”.

Great, easy experience - It was a great experience and service. We got picked up from the hotel on time, the guide, Luis was so lovely and we learnt so much about the wall and history. The food after was really good.

Book it! Excellent experience - Fantastic experience! We loved our tour guide, Jason. He was very knowledgeable, answered our many questions, and was a great leader for our hike. We loved the history lessons in addition to the hiking experience. 10/10 and would highly recommend!

Fabulous day, highly recommend - My husband and I chose to do a private tour of the Great Wall with the 3 hour trek and could not recommend the experience more highly! From the moment Cheney met us in the foyer of our hotel until we returned, we were greeted with warmth and knowledge. Cheney was passionate about history but explained everything in very easy to follow terms. The hike itself was tougher than we anticipated and had us holding our breath at times as we navigated steep walls and extreme staircases. However, we felt very safe and the strenuous exercise was worth it; the views were breathtaking. Cheney offered us lots of commentary and encouragement but also gave us lots of stops to catch our breath, sip some water and enjoy the landscape. We finished with a fabulous meal in a local restaurant which topped off a truly wonderful day! Thank you so much Cheney for your hospitality.

Amazing Trip with the best Guide! - Our hike up to, and along the great wall of China was amazing. Loved the Jinshanling Region and Dewit made the experience that much better. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. The Lunch stop after was also great. Highly recommend!

Wild wall experiences, meditative sunset moments, stunning Beijing cuisine and a journey through history via the present - There are not enough superlatives to describe the incredible Great Wall Hiking experience from which I’ve just come down (literally but not yet metaphorically, the joy continues). This 3 day hike, encompassing Jin Shan Ling, Gu Bei Kou and Chen Jia Pu, was sublime. As I said to my guide, the truly superb Cheney, it was all I’d hoped for and more. Cheney is a remarkable guide - 17 years of experience, an encyclopaedic knowledge of the Wall’s history and its characteristics, and a deep familiarity with, and love for, the geographical features of both the Wall itself and its breathtaking surrounds. Everything was perfection: the accomodation (ranging from delightful farmhouse stay - with dumpling instruction included - to compact urban style hotel), the food (from eating of aforesaid farm dumplings together with assorted home-cooked delights, to a series of post-hike lunches and dinners including spicy pork and and the crispiest eggplant on the planet) the weather (azure skies and sun - don’t know how Cheney organized that!) and most of all, the experience of walking that undulating architectural wonder, the Wall itself. The other hallmark of this company’s excellence is the flexibility and care they showed me, in accommodating a recent injury and allowing me to pursue my aim of walking the Wall despite that complication. Cheney rearranged schedules to allow optimum familiarity with the Wall’s challenges, and to ensure my safety at all times (moon boot included). I have nothing but praise for Cheney, for our wonderful driver Mr Liang (with whom I had many hilarious Papago exchanges and who also showed me alternate dumpling folding) and for Great Wall Hiking as a company. First class in all aspects. Thank you for making it so special!

Simply amazing! - Absolutely amazing! Our tour guide Cheney went above and beyond to make sure that everyone was happy. He was friendly, helpful and shared so much about the history or the Great Wall and its engineering. He even made a funny video as a souvenir of the hike.
The tour itself was just incredible! It is so worth to drive to Jinshanlig to avoid the crowds and appreciate the vastness of the landscape and truly experience the Wall. I can’t recommend it enough.
Plus - the lunch is authentic and delicious.
5 stars plus!

The best Great Wall tour - Our second day in China was unforgettable thanks to Cheney, our guide for the Jinshanling Great Wall hike. From the beginning, he was very friendly, funny, and well-prepared, which made the whole experience really enjoyable and smooth.
Cheney spoke excellent English and shared a lot of interesting information about the history and meaning of the Great Wall, as well as about Chinese culture. He was always checking that we were fine during the hike and made sure everyone could go at their own pace.
The Jinshanling part of the Wall is beautiful — less crowded, very well preserved, and with amazing views. It was the perfect combination of nature, history, and adventure.
Thank you, Cheney, for this amazing day! We really recommend this tour to anyone visiting Beijing.

Great tour - Our guide Devit was really friendly , knowledgeable and spoke excellent English. The section of the wall was not as busy or touristy as other sections and really glad we chose this company . The group was not too large and the journey from Beijing was very comfortable in a luxury mini bus. We had delicious snacks , water and a really excellent lunch/dinner at the end of the walk. Would highly recommend.

Glorious autumn hike along the Great Wall - A fantastic hike along the less visited part of the Great Wall at Jinshanling. Our guide Cheney was so helpful and knowledgeable from the moment we were picked up at our hotel at 8am til our return at 5pm. We had the most perfect golden Autumn day - cool weather, clear blue skies, and very few other tourists so we could enjoy the beautiful views and spend time examining the Wall and the surrounds. Thank you Cheney.
