- The Great wall of Jiankou - Your profession hiking guide will pick you up at departure point at 8:30am. After about 2 hours driving, you will arrive the Xishanzi village in Huairou county. Walk across the village and hike for about 1 hour, then you will approach the Due North Tower of Jiankou Great Wall. As climbing the tower, look towards the west, you will have a breathtaking view of Jiankou section. When look to the east side, you will see the Niujijiaobian, which is amazing.
After hiking another 40 minutes, you will arrive at the Niujijiaobian. This section of Great Wall is steep and dangerous, with small stones falling all the time. You shall divert this section and go back on the Great Wall after 15 minutes walking on a path instead. On the road, you will break, and you will be offered some free snack from the tour guide.
- Mutianyu Great Wall - Keep hiking for another 30 minutes, you finally reach the Mutianyu No.23 Tower where the renovated Great Wall begins. At the end there is a slide rail, and you will continue hiking for 4 to 5 hours from here. After finishing hiking, you will have lunch meal near in a local Chinese restaurant near by Mutianyu Great Wall.

Jiankou Great Wall is situated in Badaohe village, northwest of Huairou County in Beijing, roughly 30 kilometers from Huairou County Town. The Wall spans from the northern region at Badaohe to the southern area near Bohai Town. It seamlessly connects with the eastern edge of Mutianyu Great Wall and extends to the Dazhenyu Great Wall on its western end….
Jiankou Great Wall is situated in Badaohe village, northwest of Huairou County in Beijing, roughly 30 kilometers from Huairou County Town. The Wall spans from the northern region at Badaohe to the southern area near Bohai Town. It seamlessly connects with the eastern edge of Mutianyu Great Wall and extends to the Dazhenyu Great Wall on its western end. Due to the tall and steep terrain, this stretch is notably sinuous and complex. The name ‘Jiankou’ translates to ‘Arrow Knot’ in English, reflecting the mountain’s resemblances to an arrow with the sunken ridge resembling its notch. The hiking excursion is an exclusive group event guided by a seasoned trekking expert, promising an engaging adventure on the Great Wall.
To ensure a more tranquil experience, it’s advised to avoid weekends and holidays when scheduling your visit, as the Mutianyu Great Wall tends to be particularly crowded.

Best Great Wall Hiking experience! - This is the second time I hike the original Great Wall. This is the best Great Wall hiking experience! It exceeded my expectations and Ai highly recommend James and Peter if you want to climb the original wall. James was very responsive, answered every question swiftly. Peter, our tour guide, is the best! We hiked about 1hr to get to the original wall. We had the Great Wall all to ourselves! The view was breathtaking. It was an amazing experience walking on the walls that was built 600 years ago. Peter told us the history of the wall, showed us different structures that were used by the soldiers hundreds of years ago. A must have experience!

Bucket list tour! Must do. - Amazing experience. This is best way to see the Great Wall if you are staying in Beijing. Jiankou is not crowded at all and the views are stunning. It’s not until a few hours in that you start to see other tourists as you get closer to Mutianyu. Peter was a very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly guide. It was really nice spending the day with him and he took me to a great local restaurant for lunch on the way back to Beijing. The driver was safe and reliable and the luxury, electric SUV was very comfortable. My only caution is to point out that the first 90 minutes of the hike are somewhat strenuous, and the footing is a little slippery. But as long as you are at a decent fitness level it should be fine. Don’t miss this tour!

Beautiful hike, highly recommended - Highly recommend this hike. Peter is a very friendly and informative guide who speaks good English and will make you feel at ease during the hike. Jiankou is breathtaking and well worth the climb. Ending in Mutianyu is nice because of the well restored towers and wallsection, but pick a day it isnt too busy otherwise the crowds might be quite overwhelming at the end of an amazing serene hike through the wild section.
We worried for a second about Jiankou being too challenging after seeing some pretty steep sections on Youtube and Google but the dangerous parts of Jiankou arent a part of this tour (although they are part of the 10/10 view) and id say anyone who doesnt mind breaking a sweat in exchange for stellar views should give it a go!
Pick up and drop off was done with a very nice car and calm driver and after the hike we ate amazing food at a local restaurants and enjoyed some beers. Thanks again Peter!

Unique experience off the beaten path - This trekking has been the best experience in our china trip so far and our guide Peter made it truly special! The trekking is quite challenging but the stunning views, exploring the unrestored towers and the fact of being alone most of the time makes you feel like you are really doing something unique and special! Peter has been the best guide, he gave us a lot of information on Chinese culture and customs, he suggested nice spots in Beijing and he thought us a lot about Chinese culinary culture. At the end of the trek we had lunch in a very local restaurant where Peter ordered delicious dishes for us. Overall this is highly recommended! Special thanks to Peter, hope to be able to come back and explore other unrestored sections of the wall!

Amazing hike with great guide and smooth logistics - This tour (hike) was amazing! The guide, Peter, was very kind, professional, spoke English very well, and ensured I was always safe and comfortable. The beginning of the hike is the most strenuous part (trail to get on the wall). Once on the wall, it’s mostly fine. It does go up and down and the Jiankou section is not restored, so it’s a good exercise. There are some tricky parts that require to be in good shape, careful where you step your feet, and not afraid of heights. Make sure you dress accordingly as it can be cold in the morning and quite hot midday. And wear hiking shoes as this is a real hike, with sometimes slippery surfaces (lose gravel) and climbing up/down. There’s also a part where you have to slide in a very tight corridor (so tight it’s hard to turn around): this is when you leave the unrestored Jiankou section and enter the more crowded and restored Mutianyu section (gorgeous as well but many people there — so not as interesting to me than the wild and desert Jiankou section)
Peter warned me every time there was a tricky section so it went very smoothly for me. And he follows your pace, so you can either walk fast, slow, or stop regularly to take photos, it’s all good. The Jiankou section is absolutely gorgeous and no one’s there (we just met a group of 3 people at some point, that’s it). It’s wild and, in my opinion, one of the most charming part of the wall around Beijing. If you want to see a wild part of the wall by doing a short hike (3.5-4.5 hours), that’s the one for you.
The driver was also really great. Kind, funny, and very considerate.
After the hike (around 2pm, depending on how fast you walk) the lunch at the restaurant was really good (and with large portions). You can choose whatever you want, it’s part of the package. Then you can doze off in the car as the driver has to endure (very gracefully) the crazy Beijing traffic to get you back to your hotel room (about 2-2.5 hours if your hotel is in central Beijing).
All in all it was a top notch experience to enjoy a gorgeous hike on one of the most beautiful parts of the wall without any of the hassle.
I very warmly recommend this tour and have only high praises for Peter and the driver!

Fabulous hike of wild parts of Great Wall - Peter is an amazing guide and took care of everything to make this a fabulous and memorable trip. High standard of car picked me up and took me to Great Wall. Peter explained the history of the wall during the journey. The hike was truly breathtaking with hardly anyone else on the un-renovated parts. Peter took the hike at my pace and looked out for my safety at all times. After the hike Peter took me to a very nice local restaurant for a lovely lunch. He was great company and chatted throughout the day. Thank you Peter!
