Amazing anytime - I been to many parts of the Wall during different seasons but the winter with snow is amazing. The day I went was snowing and sun-freezing temperatures, so dress warm. All I will say is, if you go to any part of the Wall dress accordingly to the weather and good shoes. This was my first time to the Wall with a tour group so I like that I didn’t have to worry about anything. So I would recommend this for a visitor to China but since I live here it’s easier for me to hit parts of the Wall that tourist don’t see or have the ability to go unless one is submerged with the people.

Get your walking shoes on.... - We left Beijing early but to be expected with the traffic, first stop and by the time we arrived, a welcome stop at the Jade factory, I know, I had read the reviews and expected the sales pitch but I was pleasantly surprised by the items on offer (sales items at the back of the shop near the coffee bar!) Hubby's credit card took a bashing here with pandora style beads and family ball, a must apparently as we have the perfect family of 4! lol Then off to the WALL, our guide was a character, bubbly and boy could she walk fast, cable car lift up and an hour to walk the wall, as a hiker, I didn't think this would be enough but with all the little steps up and down an hour was plenty and the over priced beer (roughly 8.50) at the wall was dutifully paid as we were knackered and welcomed the final toboggan down! We went off for local lunch and for a scenic tour back down the mountain, a lot of snoring later, we arrived at the Ming Tombs, interesting but once in a lifetime so it ticked the box and we headed back into the city. The Tea Room, I know another sales pitch and a taste of proper Chinese Tea but they were good and Hubby's credit card took another beating. Oh well.... as I sit at home drinking it now whilst reviewing, was it worth it, yes definitely .... Thank you for a memorable day

Cold cold great wall - This is a good time to visit as you remove the crowd. A small group (10) makes it easier also to visit the site. Taking the cable car is a must. The provider was professional in explaining this without forcing the participants. The pick up from the hotel is also very helpful as Beijing is big and it’s not easy trying to get directions in English.

Price is right and an OK tour, especially if your first visit to the Wall - There was enough time to spend at the Wall (maybe a little long if you had been there before as I had) and the Ming Tombs. The tomb is a bit underwhelming and involves lots of stairs, but it still was a snapshot of another era in China. Lunch was decent. The stop at the jade store was annoyingly long, especially if you have no interest in purchasing jade. The prices are not cheap, even if you are. There is another stop a tea shop. The tea tasting room was enjoyable and I actually learned a lot, but the prices in the gift shop afterward were shockingly expensive. Our guide was OK, but he spent so much time pushing the jade and tea. I would have appreciated much more time spent on the histories of China, Beijing, the Wall, the tombs, etc. Yes he did talk a little about some of those, but it was largely all about the jade and tea when he talked. But for the price, if you cut the crap pieces out, you are still going to the tombs and Wall for a decent price, so I would recommend it; just bring your headphones.
