• Mutianyu Great Wall - Arrange to meet your driver at 6:30 am in the lobby of your hotel.\nThe journey from the center of Beijing to the Mutianyu Wall parking area takes approximately 90 minutes and covers a distance of 75 kilometers.\n\nThe Mutianyu section of the Great Wall is perched on a mountain ridge at an elevation ranging from 600 to 1,000 meters. Constructed primarily from granite blocks, the wall stands between 23 to 26 feet high (7 to 8 meters) and spans a width of 4 to 5 yards (4 to 5 meters). Erected in 1404, it was originally intended to protect against invasions from the Mongol armies to the south, but today it serves a different purpose, drawing more international visitors than it repels. Your English-speaking guide will share amusing anecdotes and historical facts about the Great Wall during your visit.\n\nA five-minute chairlift ride from the base of the mountain takes you to the 6th Watch Tower on the Great Wall. From this vantage point, you can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding villages to the south and, on clear days, catch a glimpse of Beijing’s tallest skyscraper, the Chinese Zun, in the distance. To the north, the Great Wall is flanked by seemingly endless mountain ranges. The distance between each Watch Tower along the Wall is approximately 300-500 meters. From atop a Watch Tower, the entire span of the Great Wall is visible.\n\nThe Wall’s flat section, stretching from the 6th to the 9th Watch Tower, is easily navigable for the elderly and children, while the steep section leading from the 6th Watch Tower to the 1st is more challenging. Adventurous hikers may opt to trek to the 19th Watch Tower, a two-hour journey, if they feel up to the task.\nAfter spending sufficient time exploring and capturing memorable photographs, you’ll descend from the 6th Watch Tower via an exhilarating toboggan ride.\n\nDining options near the Wall include various Chinese eateries and a Subway restaurant. Alternatively, you may choose to pack your own snacks and fruit for lunch. Your guide will supply complimentary bottled water.\nYou will return to your hotel in Beijing city around 12 pm.
