Additional Information

The Huanghuacheng Great Wall boasts more stunning scenery and attracts fewer visitors compared to other tourist hotspots. During the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), it served as a key military stronghold designed to protect the royal tombs. Constructed on mountain ridges utilizing both stones and bricks, this Wall exemplifies tenacious ancient construction techniques. In the early 1950s, the local government introduced two dam locations for irrigation and flood management, causing sections of the Wall to be submerged. Visiting this area, you will notice two reservoirs marking the start and conclusion of your journey. Huanghuacheng embodied utmost significance in defending the imperial city and royal burial sites in the Ming Dynasty. To provide maximum security to the capital and the royal tombs, two variations of the Wall were erected north of Beijing – the Outer Great Wall and the Inner Great Wall. Huanghuacheng forms part of the Inner Great Wall.
