- Cala Biriala - Nestled between towering cliffs and the lush Bìlaricòro forest of holm oaks and junipers, the quaint beach of Cala Birìala emerges unexpectedly during a sea voyage.
Its distinctive rock arch makes it easily recognizable, and its sandy shores transitioning to rocky seabeds create an ideal spot for snorkeling enthusiasts.
Accessible via a trail suited for experienced hikers, it is well-known among locals for the extensive deforestation work carried out by Tuscan charcoal workers from the early 1900s to the mid-1960s.
- Cala Mariolu - Known as the “Beach of the Thief,” this beach earned its name from the early Ponzesi fishermen who encountered the “monk seal,” or “the Mariolo” in their dialect, which would steal their catch directly from the nets. It is perhaps the most sought-after beach by tourists visiting the Island.
In 2016, it was voted the most beautiful beach in Italy, with its waters displaying a stunning array of blue and emerald green hues, justifying its top ranking.
- Cala Sisine - “Cala Sisine” boasts beauty and geological history akin to Cala Luna.
It serves as the mouth of a river flowing along the “codula of Elune,” delineating the borders between Baunei, Urzulei, and Dorgali. Unlike Sisine, it concludes with a beach of fine white sand, unique among the coves along the entire coast.
This stretch of sand spans eight hundred meters, forming a white crescent moon with six large caves opening onto the beach, and a backdrop of oleander forests preceded by a freshwater pond.
Refreshment services are available here as well.
It is also renowned as the filming location for numerous movies, including Lina Wertmuller’s famous film “Overwhelmed by an Unusual Fate in the Blue Sea of August,” primarily shot in Cala Luna in 1974.
- Cala Goloritze - A swim in the pristine waters of Cala Goloritzè is perfect for rejuvenation after a hot summer day.
The breathtaking view during this stop is truly awe-inspiring.
Tucked away in the first corner of the coast after Capo Monte Santo, it is a favored destination for hikers reaching Baunei.
Accessible only by land through a trek for hikers, the buoy field protecting it allows for a refreshing dip in its crystal-clear waters, which visitors claim are the clearest and bluest along the entire coast.
Its renowned rock arch, now an iconic symbol of Baunei, and the Spire, Punta Caroddi, standing at 148 meters above sea level, attract climbers from around the globe.
- Grotta del Fico - The guided tour of Grotta del Fico lasts approximately 1 hour.
Professional and engaging guides explain its geology, the history of caving, the initial visits by local shepherds, and the culture of this Sardinian corner. Their training is ongoing, provided by the AGTI, the Italian Tourist Caves Association.
The path is easy, mostly on steel walkways, and spans several levels. Visitors explore various rooms and galleries, with opportunities to gaze out over the sea from within the Grotto.
The environments are diverse, as are the formations and colors to be admired.
Guided tours are available in Italian, English, French, German, Spanish, and Russian. An audio guide system is in place to enhance the multilingual experience, ensuring visitors receive content appropriately without feeling overwhelmed.
