The Order of the Templars existed from 1118 to 1308, when the Pope dissolved it and confiscated its properties.
- Capela Das Aparicoes - The Chapel of the Apparitions is the “heart” of the Shrine of Fatima.
It was at the location of the Chapel that the Virgin Mary spoke to the young shepherds. Out of the six apparitions of the Virgin Mary, five occurred here – in May, June, July, September, and October – where, by the Lady’s instruction, a chapel in her honor was to be built.
Constructed between April 28 and June 15, 1919, it was later blessed, with the first Mass celebrated there on October 13, 1921. After being dynamited on the morning of March 6, 1922, it was restored and reopened on January 13, 1923.
- Basilica de Nossa Senhora do Rosario de Fatima - The temple features a large nave with a presbytery, transept, and two sacristies. It has 14 side altars, each dedicated to a mystery of the rosary.
One of the altars houses the tombs of Jacinta, Francisco, and Lucia. Since their beatification, many people visit the basilica to see them.
- Basilica of the Holy Trinity - The first stone was laid on June 6, 2004, and it was consecrated on October 12, 2007.
The altar is made from a unique piece of local stone, branco do mar. On the front side of the altar, there is a piece of marble from the tomb of the Apostle Peter (over which the Basilica of St. Peter was built, in the Vatican).
- Mosteiro Da Batalha - The Monastery of Batalha, a masterpiece of Portuguese Gothic architecture, is a stunning piece of architecture that blends various influences from its extended construction period, which spanned several reigns.
