Highly Recommend This Horseback Riding Experience!!! - This was an incredible experience with breathtaking views of the island. Our guide Smalls was wonderful, as well as our horses! Very well trained and taken care of. Thank you for an amazing and unforgettable experience! Highly recommend!

- First off, the people writing negative reviews need some perspective. The gentlemen running this are working their butt off to make a living. Maybe gain some perspective while you sit in your ivory towers. They accommodated a pick up on the far side of the island, far outside their normal area. They went above and beyond to make sure my 10 year old was comfortable and understood how to control her horse. They were exceedingly considerate with pace.
As for the welfare of the animals that others have reviewed, they can accommodate 10 people at a time (I believe), and they are walking up a mountain. The operators are doing what I would say is an exceptional job taking care of them In the given conditions.
As for the reviews about the tour operators being engaging, they were as engaging as we were. We were a very small party but they engaged anytime that we did. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone with younger kids that want something that is simple yet interesting. A little history, a quiet ride if you choose. Well worth the experience. Give Shak and Smalls your business. They are great.

A wow walk, but still demanding! - We didn’t know what sofa stone was at first, it’s a mountain! So we went to the top of the mountain , the view was just wow! Following a minor incident , the team did everything they could to minimize my spouse’s discomfort! Thank you for your professionalism!

Acceptable trail ride but wouldn’t do again - SKN Jeepers was tour organizer and wouldn’t recommend. There is no way to contact them and our 9:30 tour was changed to 10:30 the morning of and we didn’t receive notice. It was impossible to reach anyone and no one at the port. I was assured by the person who finally met us to take us to the driver that we would be back for our next tour at 1pm. The driver also said we would be back by 12:30. However neither of these two individuals have anything to do with the actual company that does the horse tour and there was no communication with them that we were signed up for a 9:30 tour and needed to be back. They drop you and leave and there is no way to get back until they return to pick you up. The two men that operate the tour were nice but not good tour guides. They don’t communicate anything during tour except when we stop at top there is a brief chat about the history of the island. The horses were very safe but extremely slow. Anyone can do this ride regardless of experience but if you are expecting anything more than a very slow walk up the hill to the view and then back down with a short ride through some neighborhood streets on way back, this isn’t the tour for you. I’d say the whole “trail” was about 1-2 miles and it took about an hour and half. I’m sure the length of time it takes depends on how many riders and their experience. Ours had only 4 people and we all had ridden before. They accommodated us needing to be back to the port for another tour but unfortunately we had to wait 30min for the driver to return and we missed our tour.
To summarize, I wouldn’t recommend SKNJEEPERS for any tour. If you are looking for a very leisure trail ride to a lovely view of the port and surrounding area and don’t mind a very slow ride with no communication then you’ll enjoy.

Horse back riding - not worth the time or money - Did not enjoy the event. The guides did not provide any information. My horse had been ridden on the prior 2 hour tour and was tired -- she should have been allowed to rest, and the scenery was mostly narrow wood trails with trash (abandoned strollers, washing machines, etc) along the path.

Nice Experience but could be better Run - Nice way to see the island but could be better run. When we arrived at the facility, no one welcomed us or let us know the next steps. We literally waited over 30 minutes while the workers did not communicate anything to us. They leisurely rounded up some horses and saddles. One horse was very badly injured which was gut wrenching. The actual ride was very enjoyable. It was a very nice route that led you up Outback terrain to see the island from a different view. The ride time was very ample and it was a nice pace; not rushed. We really enjoyed the horses and the countryside. If the experience was better run with good communication, my review would drastically change. Is it worth the money…not sure. Just know what you’re getting.

Not great… consider something else! - Pick up and ride to the site were no issue, but you’re dropped off at a small site with a storage container on the property and nothing else. No facilities, nothing. First 15min and last 15min are a slow walk through a residential construction/destruction site. Hot pavement, baking in the sun, surrounded by trash, building rubble, and junk, on the way to the trail.
The trail, once you get on it, is littered with trash and sickly animals. There was an unsafe and tense moment in the beginning when another horse that was tied up was on the path we needed to go past. This horse clearly did not like our horses and positioned himself to kick ours. Luckily we were just a foot too far for the leash and we were able to barely sneak by out of reach, but it was an uneasy moment to start the ride.
The trail isn’t great either. Full of rocks, loose gravel, and eroded dirt. Very uneven for the horses, which were certainly tired! The horses didn’t look sickly, but they definitely look overworked and exhausted. At some points during the trail, they seemed to want to just quit on us. It required a good deal of “kicking” “kissing noises” and steering to get them to go. The guide barely did anything to help. So to say this is an excursion that anyone with no experience could enjoy is incorrect. A good deal of strength and stamina is needed to keep the horses going.
Another unsafe moment was going up and then down the final hill. It is very steep even for humans on foot, VERY uneven and full of large rocks. The poor horses are doing everything they can to not let their legs buckle as they walk along very slowly. We felt terrible for them.
At the very top you are let off of the horses to walk to a more scenic view of the island. It is a really nice view. But the hot, stressful, ride to the top really removed any joy gained from the view. You get to see “sofa rock” while up there which is just an odd shaped volcanic rock that is covered in graffiti. Waste of time. The guide didn’t even offer to take our photo for us, he just scrolled on his phone waiting for us to prompt “ready to head back?”
We came back to get on the horses to descend and the horses were gone from where we left them. We actually hoped they ran away and we preferred to just walk down the mountain without them. However, they were off eating in another field. The guide disappeared to go find them and bring them back.
Overall an unsafe and uneasy experience. I seriously would not recommend this to anyone. (And mind you, we are VERY outgoing and accepting to people)

3 hr tour…turned into 6 hr nightmare - Don’t waste your time or money. Nothing really to see but goats.!!! Our guide did not even have a Horse. He walked the entire tour therefore the horses kept his pace and hence the six hours. Nigel is a great guy, and good sport. That is my one positive take away!!!
