- Montserrat - Embark on a journey to the mystical mountain of Montserrat.
This natural park, with its unique peaks, preserves the spiritual essence of Catalonia. For nearly 1,000 years, a Benedictine community has resided in these mountains, located 60 km from Barcelona. Along the way, listen to fascinating stories about Catalonia and its connection to the sacred mountain, a site of pilgrimage since ancient times and part of the route to Santiago de Compostela. Your guide will provide essential information to help you appreciate the heritage you will explore during the tour.
- Montana de Montserrat - The Rocky Massif of Montserrat was declared a Natural Park in 1987 and is characterized by the rounded shape of its peaks. This remarkable 4000-foot wonder is easily identifiable by its “serrated” top, from which it derives its name.
Upon reaching the monastery, you have numerous options, and your guide will always cater to your interests. We invite you to take a leisurely 30-minute walk to enjoy one of the most breathtaking views of the natural park, but if you prefer, you can choose to partake in other activities the mountain offers.
- Abadia de Montserrat - Visit the Basilica of Montserrat, home to the tranquil image of the Virgin of Montserrat, the patron saint of Catalonia, a polychrome Romanesque sculpture dating from the 12th century.
Legend has it that in the year 880, some shepherd boys discovered a statue of the black madonna, the “Moreneta,” in a grotto. A chapel was constructed on this site, which soon became a place of pilgrimage.
- Funicular de Sant Joan - Decide with your small group of 8 people if you wish to enjoy a ride on the rack railway that will take you to the top of the holy mountain. Enjoy breathtaking views along the way.
- Sant Jeroni - Ascend to the peak of the holy mountain to enjoy a panoramic view of the entire Montserrat Monastery and the natural park. On clear days, you will have uninterrupted views of the whole of Catalunya.
- Montserrat Museum - If you wish, you can also choose to visit the Montserrat museum. It features an important collection of early paintings, spanning the 13th to the 18th centuries, with works by El Greco, Caravaggio, as well as a large collection of Catalan paintings from the 19th and 20th centuries, including major names such as Fortuny, Rusiñol, Casas, Picasso, and Dalí, along with French impressionists like Chagall, Braque, Le Corbusier, Miró, Dalí, and Picasso.
- Penedès DO - After visiting Montserrat, you will return to the road and head to the Penedès region.
Thanks to the bright sun and the Mediterranean Sea, the Penedès region boasts one of the widest varieties of grapes of any wine region in the world.
Enjoy stunning views of the countryside while your guide explains the features of the area and the significance of its wines. In this enchanting area, time seems to have stood still, as the surroundings, vineyards, and even culinary traditions remain unchanged from many years ago.
- Subirats - Among the many lands of the Penedes Area, we have selected the most representative of Cava production: Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, the capital of Cava. You will discover the origins of this sparkling wine in the hometown of the oldest and most traditional wineries, with a wine-growing history dating back nearly five centuries.
- CCOO Sant Sadurní d’Anoia - Enjoy a brief walking tour through the center of Sant Sadurní to understand the importance of Cava in the historical development of the area. There are more than 80 local producers scattered throughout the streets, and the wine production boom in the late nineteenth century is reflected in the beautiful modernist facades of the buildings in the town center.
