A Warm Welcome to Barcelona

As a travel writer and a single mother of three, I am always on the lookout for family-friendly adventures that are both fun and educational. When I heard about the Best of Barcelona and Montserrat tour, I knew it was the perfect opportunity to explore the vibrant city of Barcelona with my kids. Our journey began with a warm welcome from our guide, Armando, who picked us up from the airport. His lively personality and excellent English made us feel right at home as he introduced us to the rich history and culture of Barcelona.

Our first stop was the iconic Sagrada Familia, where we were able to skip the long lines thanks to our pre-arranged tickets. The kids were in awe of the intricate architecture, and Armando’s engaging storytelling brought the history of this magnificent basilica to life. After our visit, Armando whisked us away to our hotel, where we settled in for a good night’s rest, excited for the adventures that lay ahead.

Exploring Montserrat

The next morning, we set off early to avoid the city’s notorious traffic, heading towards the breathtaking Montserrat. The drive itself was an adventure, with Armando stopping at strategic points to let us marvel at the stunning views. The kids were fascinated by the unique rock formations, and Armando’s tales of the monastery’s history kept them entertained throughout the journey.

Upon arrival, we had two hours to explore the monastery on our own. The kids enjoyed the freedom to roam and discover the hidden corners of this historic site. We even had a chance to listen to the famous Montserrat Boys’ Choir, a highlight that left us all in awe. After our exploration, Armando met us and drove us back to the heart of Barcelona, where we continued our adventure with a visit to the Picasso Museum.

A Taste of Catalonia

Our final day in Barcelona was a delightful blend of culture and cuisine. We were picked up by George, who took us to a family-owned winery. The kids were intrigued by the process of organic farming and the challenges faced by local winemakers. We tasted the fruits of their labor, and the kids enjoyed learning about the different flavors and aromas.

Later, we visited another small winery where we learned about the production of Cava, a sparkling wine that is a specialty of the region. The informative tour and tasting were followed by a delicious lunch, where we savored traditional Catalan dishes. As our time in Barcelona came to an end, we were grateful for the seamless experience provided by our guides and drivers, who made our trip both enjoyable and educational.
