Bangkok’s impressive Grand Palace has an area of 218,400 sq. meters and is surrounded by walls built in 1782, each with a length of 1,900 meters (6,230 feet). Within these walls are the government offices and the Royal Chapel of the Emerald Buddha, along with the Thai royal residences.
- Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Kaew) - Next, discover the remarkable Wat Phra Kaeo, the most beautiful and important Buddhist temple in Thailand. It is so richly and intricately decorated that you are sure to feel as if you are in a real “city of angels” from the moment you step inside.
- Wat Phra Chetuphon - Arrive at Wat Pho (the Temple of the Reclining Buddha) to explore another of Bangkok’s magnificent temples. Founded in the 16th century, this is the oldest and biggest temple with the largest number of pagodas (95 in all) in the city. It’s also well known for its huge Reclining Buddha, at 46 meters (150 feet) long and 15 meters (50 feet) high.
A short walk from Wat Pho, you will try a traditional Thai massage. Unlike other massages, the Thai style involves stretching and deep massage. This form of bodywork is usually performed on the floor, and the massage recipient changes into loose, comfortable clothes and lies on a mat or firm mattress on the floor.
- Temple Of Dawn (Wat Arun) - Then take a short stroll to Arun Residence and enjoy a drink as the sun sets behind Wat Arun from the opposite side of the Chao Phraya River whilst enjoying a drink.
- Khaosan Road - The centre of the backpacking universe! You’ll find stalls set up along the streets with guesthouses, restaurants and bars on both side of the road, here you’ll stop for some streetfood before catching a Tuk Tuk for a drive into the city nights.
- Democracy Monument - The Democracy Monument is a public monument in the centre of Bangkok, capital of Thailand.
- Wat Ratchanatdaram Woravihara (Loha Prasat) - Loha Prasat, which means iron castle or iron monastery, it was modeled after the one in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. It is the only one of its kind that exists today. It was submitted to UNESCO to be a World Heritage Site in 2005.
- The Golden Mount (Wat Saket) - Built on an artificial man-made hill, the Golden Mount is the temple’s most well-known landmark and is a sacred pilgrimage site during the weeklong worshipping period in November. To get to the top requires a climb up some 300 steps, which encircle the chedi like a loosely coiled snake.
