It houses the Emerald Buddha, a highly esteemed statue carved from a single jade block, adorned with gold seasonal robes by the King of Thailand.
The temple is surrounded by beautifully decorated buildings, pavilions, and golden chedis, showcasing centuries of devotion and craftsmanship. The complex features intricate murals depicting scenes from the Ramakien, the Thai version of the Ramayana, and colorful guardian statues known as yakshas at the entrances, adding a dramatic and iconic touch.
Visitors are enchanted by the gleaming golden spires, detailed mosaics, and the tranquil atmosphere, which together create a profound sense of spirituality and history. Wat Phra Kaew remains an active religious site, offering a remarkable insight into Thailand’s culture, art, and devotion.
- The Grand Palace - Constructed in 1782, the Grand Palace served as the official residence of the Kings of Siam (now Thailand) for over 150 years and continues to symbolize the Thai monarchy. The complex features stunning architecture, ornate gates, and beautifully decorated halls, reflecting the kingdom’s grandeur and cultural richness.
Please note that during this tour, the palace building is admired from the outside, as entry to the main building is not permitted.
- Wat Phra Chetuphon Wimon Mangkhalaram Rajwaramahawihan - From the Grand Palace, enjoy a short and enjoyable tuk-tuk ride to Wat Pho.
Wat Pho, also known as the Temple of the Reclining Buddha, is one of Bangkok’s oldest and most esteemed temples, dating back to the 16th century. The temple complex houses over a thousand Buddha images, each showcasing exquisite Thai craftsmanship, but it is best known for the enormous Reclining Buddha, measuring 46 meters long and covered in gold leaf.
Wat Pho is also recognized as the birthplace of traditional Thai massage, and the temple still operates a renowned massage school where visitors can learn and experience this ancient healing art.
Strolling through Wat Pho, one is immersed in history, art, and spirituality, witnessing the grandeur and devotion of Thai Buddhist culture.
- Wat Arun - From Wat Pho, we walk to a nearby pier on the Chao Phraya River and take a short ferry ride across to Wat Arun, located on the Thonburi side of the river. Thonburi was the capital of Siam for 15 years, from 1767 to 1782, before King Rama I moved the capital across the river to present-day Bangkok.
Wat Arun, originally known as Wat Makok (meaning “Olive Temple”), is famously called the Temple of Dawn. Its central prang (spire) rises over 70 meters and is adorned with intricate mosaics made from colorful porcelain and seashells, creating a dazzling effect when sunlight hits the temple. The temple is a masterpiece of Khmer-style architecture, with smaller surrounding prangs dedicated to the temple’s guardians.
Wat Arun is particularly admired for its riverside location, making it one of Bangkok’s most photogenic landmarks.
Visitors can climb partway up the central prang for panoramic views of the Chao Phraya River, the Grand Palace, and the surrounding cityscape.
- Pak Khlong Talat (Flower Market) - After visiting Wat Arun, we take the ferry back across the Chao Phraya River and walk to Pak Khlong Talat, Bangkok’s vibrant Flower Market. Originally established as a traditional fresh produce market in the early 20th century, it has evolved into the city’s largest and most colorful flower market, operating 24 hours a day.
Pak Khlong Talat is a sensory delight, with endless stalls brimming with roses, orchids, marigolds, lotus flowers, and exotic blooms in every imaginable color. The fragrant aroma of fresh flowers fills the air, and local vendors can be seen skillfully arranging garlands, bouquets, and ceremonial offerings.
Today, the market remains both a working market for locals and a captivating destination for visitors, offering a glimpse into the daily life of Bangkok and Thailand’s enduring flower culture.
After exploring Pak Khlong Talat, guests will be transferred back to their hotel, completing a half-day journey to some of Bangkok’s most iconic sights.
