Visitors will have the opportunity to examine heritage gun emplacements and cannons from the 1870s.
A seven-meter-high wall, complete with rifle loopholes, was constructed to shield local gunners from potential invaders.
Balmoral Beach and Rocky Point Island, situated in Middle Harbour, offer an ideal spot to appreciate the charm of this beloved suburb.
Balmoral is a serene harbour beach, sheltered from wind and surf due to its location.
Rocky Point Island is linked to the mainland by a small art deco bridge, built during the Great Depression as a job creation initiative.
Crossing the bridge to the island provides panoramic views, including vistas across Middle Harbour to the Sydney Harbour National Park, Grotto Point Lighthouse, and North Head.
- Manly Beach - At Manly Beach, a stroll near the Cabbage Bay Aquatic Reserve leads to the scenic Shelley Beach.
Along the way, a small rock pool features two graceful sculptures, affectionately called ‘The Sea Nymphs.’
Shelley Beach is unique as it faces directly back towards Manly Beach.
This small, secluded beach is surrounded by cabbage tree palms. From Shelley Beach, a staircase leads to a lookout offering views of Manly Beaches and those north of Manly.
Depending on conditions, surfers may be seen practicing on a reef break with multiple take-off points.
While in the Manly area, a visit to the North Head lookout in the Sydney Harbour National Park is a must.
This spot offers one of the finest views of Sydney Harbour and the city skyline.
A photo stop may also be included to admire the grand neo-gothic sandstone building, formerly a seminary for priests (St Patricks).
- Palm Beach - At Palm Beach, a walk to the iconic Barrenjoey Lighthouse, made from locally sourced Hawkesbury sandstone, is planned.
The lighthouse offers breathtaking views in every direction.
To the south, Palm Beach, an isthmus, and the Whale Beach Headland are visible. To the northwest lies Lion Island and Broken Bay. Directly west is the Pittwater inlet, a favorite among boaters, fishermen, and kayakers.
Across Pittwater is the lookout to be visited later, West Head.
Palm Beach is famous for the long-running Australian soap opera, Home and Away. Filming might even be in progress during the visit!
The adventure continues with a coastal drive, allowing for close encounters with several charming beaches.
A brief stop is planned to admire the orange sands of Avalon Beach.
- West Head Lookout - The Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park boasts one of the highest concentrations of indigenous art in Australia, with an estimated 1500 pieces of Aboriginal art.
On the way to West Head, a visit to ancient Aboriginal rock engravings at the Basin Aboriginal art site is included. Access to the site involves a walk through a natural bush setting.
Nearby West Head offers one of the most spectacular views in all of Sydney.
The panorama includes the isthmus at Palm Beach, Barrenjoey Headland, central coast beaches, the entrance to Pittwater, and Lion Island. A truly magnificent sight!
