Sailing the Black Sea: A Balchik Yacht Adventure
When the weather thwarted my plans for a cape tour, I found myself on a yacht exploring the Balchik coast. What unfolded was a day of sun, sea, and unexpected delights.
Setting Sail from Balchik
The moment I stepped onto the yacht, I felt the familiar embrace of the sea breeze, a sensation that always takes me back to my surfing days. The port of Balchik was a picturesque sight, with its charming white houses and the lush green of the Botanical Gardens of Queen Maria’s summer residence. As we set sail, the view of the town slowly faded into the horizon, replaced by the vast expanse of the Black Sea.
Our guide, fluent in both English and German, ensured we were well taken care of, offering drinks and sharing stories about the region. The yacht glided smoothly over the gentle waves, and I couldn’t help but feel a sense of freedom and adventure, reminiscent of my island-hopping escapades in the Caribbean. The journey to the beach took about an hour, a perfect prelude to the leisurely day ahead.
A Day at the Beach
Upon reaching the beach, we were greeted by the warm embrace of the sun and the inviting waters of the Black Sea. With around 3.5 hours to spend, I had the option to go fishing with the guide or simply enjoy the beach. Naturally, I chose the latter, eager to dive into the sea and explore its underwater wonders.
Swimming in the pleasantly warm waters, I encountered schools of fish and the gentle presence of Barrel and moon jellyfish. These creatures, harmless to humans, added a touch of magic to the experience. Loungers and a parasol were at our disposal, providing a perfect spot to relax and soak in the sun. The self-service drinks were a nice touch, keeping us refreshed throughout the day.
Lunch was served on the beach, and while the chicken was a bit pink for my taste, the fish was reportedly delicious. As I savored the meal, I couldn’t help but reflect on how this day was shaping up to be one of the best I’ve had in Bulgaria.
Returning to Balchik
As the afternoon sun began its descent, we boarded the yacht for our return journey to Balchik. The ride back was a serene experience, with the sea reflecting the golden hues of the setting sun. Once back in Balchik, I took the opportunity to explore the shops and restaurants along the seafront, a delightful way to end the day.
Reflecting on the experience, I realized that this yacht tour was more than just a leisurely picnic along the coast. It was a reminder of the simple joys of life, the beauty of the sea, and the thrill of discovery. For anyone seeking a blend of relaxation and adventure, this yacht tour is a must-try. It was, without a doubt, the highlight of my Bulgarian adventure.
