ABOUT KHINALUG

By some definitions Xınalıq (2335m) is Europe’s highest village. Its upper half retains many ancient stone houses that form distinctively austere stepped terraces up a steep highland ridge. And the whole scene is often magically wrapped in spooky clouds that part sporadically to reveal 360-degree views of the surrounding Caucasus.

Apart from examining the one-room museum and gazing at the hypnotic views, the main attraction is meeting and staying with Xınalıq’s hardy shepherd folk who have their own language (Ketsh) and still live much of their lives on horseback. Bring warm clothes – nights can be icy cold.

Fascinating trip to Khinalug with Elchin - We recently had a great experience of taking a one-day tour from Baku to Khinalug with TES Tour and Elchin as our driver and guide. Elchin is a very kind person, his friendly and approachable nature made it easy to engage with him and ask questions, and he always had interesting insights to offer. The trip was well organised and Khinalug village makes great impression. We had opportunity to have a lunch in local home, visit the local mosque and museum. We had a fascinating trip filled with incredible sights, delicious food, and interesting stories!

Amazing - It is an amazing trip. The road until there is spectacular with breathing views. The village, the small trekking, the viewpoints are all amazing. Our guide Farid was very knowledgeable and put a lot of passion in explaining all the Azerbaidjan traditions. All the trip felt personal and unique because of him. Would 100% recommend this guide and this trip. Be aware that is a 12h trip and they will not do it in a hurry so you have time to enjoy all the sights. Greetings from.the Romanian group.

Great tour to Khinalug - Booked a private tour to Khinalug. Guide was with Gulshan who was very considerate as I requested many stops for photo taking. The tour itself was magnificent and was able to see a wonderful mountainous part of Azerbaijan. From the beginning of booking with Aynur who helped facilitate the process to the tour was top notch. Also the family who hosted with Rehman was also a very special treat as the home cooked meal was fantastic. Overall a 10 of 10 experience.

Khinalug excursion - Although the bus ride is long, the candy canes and mountain scenery are spectacular. We were welcomed into the family in Khinalug with respect and kindness. The meal was excellent and very varied. On the other hand, the service of the guide must be improved. No explanation was provided during this visit. It would have been interesting to know about daily life in this mountain village.
