Icherisheher Historical-Architectural Reserve - Begin the first day with a warm welcome from a local guide and driver at the hotel or airport. The tour starts with an exploration of Baku’s rich heritage and cultural beauty, the capital of Azerbaijan. The journey begins in Baku Old City (Icherisheher), the ancient heart of Baku, with a guided walking tour through this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit the Maiden Tower (Qız Qalası), a mysterious 12th-century monument offering panoramic views of the Old City and the Caspian Sea. Also, explore the Shirvanshah’s Palace, a medieval royal complex showcasing Islamic architecture and Azerbaijani heritage, along with historic Caravanserais and mosques, offering glimpses of Silk Road-era trade culture. The tour continues to the renowned Carpet Museum, housed in a building shaped like a rolled carpet, displaying centuries of weaving traditions, regional patterns, and contemporary carpet art interpretations.
Gobustan Rock Art - The second half of the day includes a tour of Gobustan National Park & Mud Volcanoes. Travel south of Baku (approximately a one-hour drive) to Gobustan National Park to discover the Gobustan Rock Art Museum, featuring over 6,000 prehistoric rock engravings dating back more than 40,000 years. Explore the Open-air Petroglyph Reserve, walking among carvings depicting hunting scenes, rituals, and early human life. Witness the Mud Volcanoes, a geological phenomenon unique to Azerbaijan, home to nearly half of the world’s mud volcanoes, with bubbling mud pools and miniature eruptions in a lunar-like landscape.
Highland Park - Conclude the first day with a Panoramic Evening Tour of Baku. Return to Baku for a scenic drive through the city at sunset. Visit Highland Park for panoramic views of the city, Flame Towers, and Baku Bay. The three Flame Towers are modern skyscrapers that light up dramatically after dark. Upland Park Martyrs’ Alley is a place of national pride and remembrance with views over the Caspian Sea. Enjoy an optional dinner at a traditional Azerbaijani restaurant featuring local dishes like dolma, kebabs, and plov, accompanied by folk music and ambient interiors (can be arranged in advance). At the end of a full and enriching day, guests will be dropped off at their hotel to relax and prepare for the next day’s journey deeper into Azerbaijan. The total tour duration for the day is approximately 8 to 10 hours, guided by a professional.
Shamakhi & Gabala Tour – Journey to the Caucasus Mountains
Diri Baba Mausoleum - Start the day with a hearty breakfast at the hotel in Baku before checking out. Depart from Baku towards Sheki, one of Azerbaijan’s most picturesque regions. Along the way, explore the historical and spiritual landmarks of Shamakhi and Gabala. Make a short stop in Maraza to visit the mystical Diri Baba Mausoleum, a 15th-century structure built into a cliffside. This tomb of a Sufi saint blends religious legend with striking Islamic architecture.
Juma Mosque - Next, explore the historic Juma Mosque, one of the oldest mosques in the Caucasus, originally built in the 8th century. The mosque stands as a symbol of Islamic history in Azerbaijan and has been beautifully restored after several earthquakes.
Yeddi Gumbaz Mausoleum - Visit the Yeddi Gumbaz, a necropolis of the Shirvan Dynasty. Only three of the seven mausoleums remain intact today, but they stand as an important legacy of the region’s past rulers.
Sheki City Tour – Culture, Crafts & Caucasian Charm
Sheki Khan’s Palace - Enjoy breakfast at the hotel in Sheki before starting the exploration of this culturally rich town. Begin with a guided tour of the magnificent Sheki Khan’s Palace, a stunning 18th-century residence known for its intricate stained glass (Shebeke) windows, vivid frescoes, and wooden carvings. Visit the ABAD Ceramics and Applied Arts Center, where local artisans showcase traditional and modern ceramic works. Learn about Azerbaijani craftsmanship and possibly purchase a handmade souvenir. Explore the town’s history at this museum, located in a former nobleman’s mansion. Exhibits cover everything from archaeology and textiles to the local way of life. Watch local artisans create the delicate Shebeke, a traditional stained glass and wood lattice art without the use of nails or glue.
Sheki Karvansaray - Try your hand at making a simple piece. The tour continues to the Sheki Caravanserai, an authentic inn once used by Silk Road traders. Its grand stone courtyard offers a glimpse into the town’s trading past.
