Fasil Ghebbi - Following a short break, embark on a city tour of Gondar, including the Royal Enclosure. This area is encircled by high stone walls and contains the ruins of 17th-century palaces belonging to King Fasiladas, King Iyasu, and Queen Mentewab, along with other structures like a library and dining hall. The architecture blends Ethiopian, European, and possibly Indian styles. According to 17th-century travelers, King Fasiladas’ castle was lavishly adorned with gold, ivory, and precious stones.
Fasiladas Bath Timket - Next, visit Fasiladas’ Bath, constructed in a similar style. This serene, shaded, and picturesque location is worth exploring. The ancient bath is filled with water annually for the significant Timket (Epiphany) ceremony, which reenacts Christ’s baptism in the Jordan River and symbolizes a vital renewal of faith.
Debre Berhan Selassie Church - Also, visit Debre Berhan Selassie Church, meaning Trinity at the Mount of Light. The church features a rectangular structure with ceilings adorned with beautiful winged angels and walls depicting impressive biblical scenes, including the lives of Christ, Mary, and the saints and martyrs. A painting of the church’s founder, Emperor Iyasu I, is also present.
Gondar - Addis Ababa
Addis Ababa - After a leisurely breakfast, take a short flight back to Addis Ababa. Arrive in the city by midday or early afternoon, allowing time for souvenir shopping. Depending on your arrival time, visit the National Museum, showcasing prehistoric, cultural, and archaeological attractions, and explore Merkato, Africa’s largest open market.
