One temple stands on a cliff, similar to the temple in Uluwatu, while the other one stands on a large rock in the sea.
Additionally, the name ‘Tanah Lot’ translates to ‘land in the sea’, with ‘Tanah’ meaning land, and ‘Lot’ meaning sea. When the tide is low, visitors can walk across to the temple, however, during high tide, the temple appears to be surrounded by the ocean. There’s a cave located in front of the main temple that houses a sacred snake. The locals consider this snake to be the protector of the temple from malevolent spirits.
