- The Sphinx of Memphis - While the oldest structures in Cairo date back only to the last few centuries BC during the Greco-Roman period, the Giza Pyramids, located on the outskirts of the city, are among the oldest structures on Earth. Despite their proximity to Cairo, the age difference between the pyramids and the city itself highlights their distinct histories.
The pyramids at Giza and other nearby desert locations are remnants of an ancient city and civilization that declined long before Cairo was established. This civilization called the area Memphis, which served as the capital of the Old Kingdom (2686—2181 BC) of Ancient Egypt, home to the pharaohs who constructed the pyramids.

Saqqara (Sakkara) Pyramids - Saqqara is one of several notable necropolis sites near Cairo, offering impressive sights and significant archaeological value. Saqqara may even hold more interest for archaeologists than Giza. This vast site contains burials dating from before the Old Kingdom through the Greek Period of Egyptian history.
The most renowned structure at Saqqara is Djoser’s Step Pyramid. Dating from the 3rd dynasty (2667—2448 BC), it was the first all-stone complex ever built on Earth. It also introduced an important architectural innovation for the construction of the Giza Pyramids and other later pyramids in the 4th dynasty and beyond.
Djoser’s pyramid was the first to use multiple mastabas (rectangular tomb structures) stacked to form a step pyramid. This construction paved the way for the smooth sides of the Giza Pyramids and the smaller 5th and 6th dynasty pyramids found at Saqqara and other nearby sites, such as Dahshur and Abu Sir.
-
Great Pyramid of Cheops (Khufu) - The tour guide will lead visitors to the Great Pyramid of Cheops, the only remaining wonder of the ancient Seven Wonders of the World. Visitors can walk around, take photos, touch, and even sit on it.
-
Khafre’s Pyramid - The second largest pyramid at Giza and in Egypt was built for Khafre, the third pharaoh of the 4th Dynasty during the Old Kingdom Period of Ancient Egypt around 2540 BC. Khafre, also known by the Greek name Chephren, was the son of Khufu, who built the Great Pyramid, and the grandson of Sneferu, another prominent builder of Ancient Egypt. An external visit is included, but entry into the pyramid requires an additional ticket, which can be purchased during the visit.
-
Menkaure Pyramid - The smallest of the pharaohs’ pyramids at Giza.
-
Great Sphinx - Continue on to the Great Sphinx, which features the head of a pharaoh and the body of a lion. Dating back to the time of Khephren, the Sphinx was created to guard the pyramid of King Chefren. Next, visit the Valley Temple, which belonged to the Pyramid of Chefren. The temple served as a place for the mummification process of the king before burial.
-
Pyramids of Giza - A panoramic view spot where visitors can enjoy the sight of the Sahara Desert and the pyramids in one line. A camel ride can be an option in this setting.
