Highlights
  • St. Paul de Mausole - After a short drive from Avignon and your tour guide’s commentary along the way, experience the peaceful surroundings of St Paul de Mausole’s asylum, where the Dutch artist Vincent Van Gogh created masterpieces like “The Starry Night” and “The Irises”. Don’t miss the remains of the former Roman town of Glanum that are to be admired just nearby. Please be aware that the hospital is still in use today so you will only be able to see the exteriors and the last part of St Remy’s Van Gogh Walk with boards representing some of the painter’s most famous works. The visit of the replica of the painter’s room is not included in this tour.
  • Les Baux de Provence - A beautiful drive through vineyards and olive groves will take you to Les Baux de Provence, a real gem in the heart of the Alpilles massif. Your tour guide will drop you at the entrance of this pedestrian village, from where you’ll have the chance to enjoy breathtaking views. An eagle’s nest perched on a rocky plateau overlooking the Crau and the Camargue, Les Baux is not only a medieval fortress: a lot of shopping opportunities are available there!
  • Arles - Meet your driver again and head to the “capital” of the Camargue, the lively and colourful old Arles. Your tour guide will provide you with maps and information about things to do and see, as well as lunch suggestions. A long stop is scheduled so that everyone can have enough time to visit the many monuments inscribed in the UNESCO world heritage list, follow in Van Gogh’s footsteps and also taste some local specialties (lunch not included).
Don’t miss Arles’ picturesque market on Wednesdays and Saturdays!
  • Pont du Gard - In the afternoon, meet your guide again and continue the journey with another unique World Heritage Site, the Pont du Gard. Enjoy a beautiful walk on shaded alleys and be awestruck by this 2000-year-old masterpiece of Roman engineering.
On hot days you can also deep your feet or take a dive into the river Gardon, to see the aqueduc from an unusual angle!
Afterwards, head back to Avignon old town.

Fabulous day trip from Avignon! Highly, highly recommended!! - This was me and my husband’s first time to Avignon. We decided against renting a car. Best decision. Veronica was the most courteous, kind and knowledgeable tour guide we could have asked for. We saw Saint Remy de Provence; including the mental hospital where Van Gogh painted many of his most famous works, as well as some Roman ruins nearby; the cliff side village of Chateaus de Baux-de-Provence ; the more bustling Arles, which had a lively street market the day we were there. At Arles, be sure and see the coliseum. Lastly. we stopped at the Pont du Gard. I highly recommend this tour, especially if this is your first trip to the area. As I said, Veronica was the best!

Incredible water Aquaduct - The amazing bridge at Pont du Gard is worth the time it takes to park and walk. It is truly breathtaking even by modern standards.

Walk where Van Gogh walked! - My husband and I loved this tour. We both have an interest in Van Gogh and this was the perfect tour to learn a little more of his life and walk the pathways he walked. Nico our guide was delightful and gave an excellent commentary. The small group of just 6 people made it easy to stay on schedule and we had plenty of time to wander around on our own. Our last stop at the Pont du Gard was beyond my expectations. We both loved our day. If you have any interest in these areas, we highly recommend this tour.

You're in good hands with ProVans! - Loved this tour, it was just me and a couple from new Jersey. Nicolas shared some great historical info as we drove from place to place. I enjoyed having a chance to explore Baux-de-Provence and even more time in Arles. Pont Du Gard was magnificent, and walking in Van Gogh's footsteps was both inspiring and calming. Highly recommend.

Wonderful day in Arles - wonderful trip! Our guide Nicholas was wonderful! We booked the small group tour, and it was just my husband and I, and another guest. We first went to San Remy were we took in some Roman ruins and wandered around Saint Paul de Mausole area, taking in the sites. Then we were off to Arles, where Nicholas gave us an idea of where to wander and a great lunch recommendation (L'Arlatan, which was amazing). We wandered the city, went to the Amphitheatre, had lunch and met up with him and the went to the Pont du Gard. There Nicolas again told us about the location and let us wander around the site until it was time to return to Avignon. We enjoyed our day with him very much and would recommend this company to anyone in the area.

Fabulous tour in Provence - We had a very nice day with Veronica on the Yellow” tour exploring St Remy Provence, Les Beax, plenty of free time in Arles for lunch and seeing the highlights there. We finished in Pont du Gard. She gave just the right amount of commentary and has a great personality to be a guide. Thank you Veronica for a fantastic day! Highly recommend this tour and this small husband and wife owned company.

Great way to spend a day in Provence - This was a really neat day. We started by visiting sites at which Van Gogh had painted. It was really neat to stand in the exact spots that he had when he painted some of his masterpieces, both at the psychiatric hospital and in Arles. We also visited the tiny hilltop town of Beaux (sp?), which has a ton of history and character. Then we saw the aqueduct near Nimes, which I’ve always wanted to see. It didn’t disappoint, as you can hike up to both ends of it, and also walk across it. All of this was accompanied by Nico’s excellent commentary and delivery of historical background and context - as well as an excellent lunch recommendation at a very authentic mom-and-pop (and daughters) restaurant in Arles.

Private tour to VanGogh's Provence and Roman History - We took this private tour with Veronica who was excellent. She is such a lovely person but so knowledgeable about Van Gogh's history. We had a full day visiting Les Baux de Provence, Arles, and the bridge at Pont du Gard. Veronica even stopped at a boulangerie so we could get sandwiches to take back to our hotel. She also helped with restaurant recommendations in Avignon. I can't give Veronica enough stars -- she made the day one of the highlights of our trip!!
