This tour is a magical journey through the sparkling frozen tundra, chasing the colorful swirls of the aurora borealis overhead. Learn the basic science behind this phenomenon and how to photograph it using your own camera. You’ll capture stunning landscapes and portraits, all included. The trek is a 6-8 hour tour. Depending on cloud coverage, we drive 15-40 miles north of Fairbanks to one of many excellent viewing locations. At the stop, we set up a cozy heated warming shelter for you. We also offer complimentary gourmet pizzas, hot from our 930-degree stone-fired pizza oven, along with hot cocoa, coffee, and chai tea. This adventure always delivers a memorable experience with lots of fun and extras to enjoy while we wait for the aurora to appear. Nathan is a professional portrait photographer by trade, which is something you’d be hard pressed to find on any other Aurora tour in the Fairbanks area. He has 9 years experience as an engagement/wedding photographer. Other tours offer “free portraits” but not to the level of expertise that Nathan will provide, he uses controlled supplemental studio lighting to achieve unmatched quality and sharpness with techniques he developed over 7 years of painstaking practice, specifically in aurora portraiture. We also provide you with complementary gear to help keep you warm and safe: insulated over boots, hand/toe warmers, headlamps, ice crampons for traction, water bottles etc. But what everything boils down to is great photos. The photos speak for themselves and we want to get you some of your OWN!! Not only will you have a top tier photographer as a guide but Nathan also has more than 20 years of Alaska backcountry artic survival skills and offers expertise in all things Alaska adventure.

We had an amazing experience on Nathan’s Aurora Borealis tour! Nathan is a fantastic guide - he’s friendly, engaging, and a local with great knowledge of the area. Nathan kept the tour comfortable and fun, adding personal touches that made it feel special. The pizza provided was a nice bonus, and we really enjoyed the interesting science lesson about the Northern Lights. The photos were absolutely stunning, capturing the beauty of the Aurora perfectly. Overall, it was a memorable and well-organized tour. Highly recommended!

Nathan puts customers first - This was really a fun and beautiful adventure. Nathan is a very friendly and informative guide, he keeps the group close to 10 people so people get the chance to know each other and indeed, we got the chance to have great conversations, all while being warm and cosy into an insulated igloo tent, with delicious pizzas cooked on site. Meanwhile you get to learn a lot about Northern Lights and you can get in and out very easily to get a chance to watch the northern lights as they appear. Unfortunately, yesterday the northern lights were very shy, they were first covered from the clouds then once the sky cleared up we could see some with our cameras but to the naked eye, it looked more like a cloud. Nathan was really nice as he said that for him this doesn't count as a real northern light experience and he wants us to really see the aurora with our naked eyes and offered us right away to come back for an extra tour for free. He checked with everyone schedule to save us seats on the best night he thinks we can see them and I fully trust him. Even if he didn't, I would have given him 5 stars because the northern lights are not 100% predictable and so is the weather. Yesterday it was very windy and even our guide said he haven't seen that for a long time. But the overall experience was so enjoyable. He even did a u turn on the way back as we passed a moose so that we could have a good look at it. It was 2 am and could have just understandably kept going but he just love sharing the beauty of Alaska. He would also gives you great advices about things and places to go. And just if you wonder, he did learn to become a photographer at school and have been tuning his technique to take great shots under northern lights since he started doing those tours several years ago. You can tell he is enjoying this, he is having fun and you will have too if you join his tour.
Before we started the tour, I was curious about what we would do or said, being afraid of being bired just waiting for the northern lights to show up and fall asleep 😂
We didn't see the time going and I was more awake when we left than when we arrived and even our early bird friend who usually go to bed at 8pm, stayed awake till the end.

No other tour will compare - this is the one you want! - We just had the most amazing experience seeing the northern lights in Fairbanks, Alaska, and it was all thanks to our incredible guide, Nathan! From start to finish, he thought of everything—his warm, heated shelter (complete with pizza and hot drinks) was a game-changer, and his deep knowledge of weather patterns and aurora activity ensured we were in the best possible spot.
You can tell Nathan takes great pride in his work. He’s not only accommodating but incredibly efficient—he had our shelter set up in no time! When we arrived at our lookout spot, the aurora was already starting to appear, so he immediately took portraits of everyone, just in case it didn’t return. But before he could even start unloading gear, the sky exploded with color—greens, purples, and blues snaking across the sky in the most breathtaking display.
I’m sure other guides can get the job done, but Nathan creates a true experience. He makes you feel like you’ve known him forever, and his passion and expertise make all the difference. If you’re looking for the ultimate northern lights tour, look no further—this is the one!

BEST TOUR GUIDE!!! 🌟 - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Nathan was hands down one of the best tour guides I’ve ever had. We booked an aurora tour with him, and even though the weather didn’t cooperate and we couldn’t see the northern lights, he still made our experience unforgettable😍🥳
Nathan really knows his stuff when it comes to chasing the auroras. He educated us about the aurora Kp and Bz numbers to determine the best possible chance of seeing them. Unfortunately, when we were in Fairbanks, a heatwave hit and the skies were way too cloudy, so it was clear we weren’t going to see the lights. Nathan was upfront and honest with us, keeping us updated on the forecast and giving us the option to skip the tour if we weren’t up for it. But even though we knew the auroras weren’t likely, Nathan made sure the night was still packed with fun.
He went out of his way to make sure we had a blast. He set up a tent and cooked us gourmet pizza, took some fantastic photos of us flying Chinese lanterns and doing the steel wool photography, and we just had a great time chatting with him. He was super friendly and made the whole experience feel more like hanging out with a friend than just being a part of a tour.☺️💐
Nathan also really had our best interests in mind. When he saw that the auroras were out of the question, he offered to take us to Chena Hot Springs so we could still make the most of the night and have a relaxing end to our day. It was such a thoughtful gesture, and it showed how much he genuinely wanted us to have a great time despite the weather.🥺💕
And as if that wasn’t enough, Nathan also took our engagement photos! 😍✨Having a guide who’s also a talented photographer was such a bonus, and we got some beautiful shots that we’ll cherish forever.
To top it off, Nathan made sure to let us know that his company policy allows guests to come back for free within the next two years to try again for the auroras if the weather doesn’t cooperate on the first trip. That really shows his commitment to ensuring guests get the full experience, and it’s such a generous offer.
Honestly, Nathan went above and beyond in every way possible. Even though we didn’t get to see the auroras, we still had an amazing time because of him. I would absolutely recommend him to anyone planning a trip to Alaska. He’s knowledgeable, prepared, kind, and just a genuinely good person who makes sure you have an awesome experience no matter what. I’d definitely book another tour with him in the future!

This is THE way to view the Auroras - Communication with Nathan was top notch. When the auroras didn’t look like they’d appear, Nathan contacted me. We switched the dates. Good thing because the day we switched was crazy cold but the auroras were stunning. What I enjoyed most about this tour was Nathan’s enthusiasm and creativity, the pizza oven and pizzas were a thoughtful touch. The lanterns and photography were a lot of fun. Nathan majored in photography. The photos came out professional! He’s that good! He also didn’t rush us. I think he could’ve stayed out til even later than we did! Great tour. Great fun.
