Highlights

Enjoy a guided electric bike tour through some of Auckland’s most lively neighborhoods. Venture off the usual tourist paths and discover where locals go for the best food, drinks, shopping, and cultural experiences. Your guide will provide insider tips to help you make the most of your time in this incredible city.

You’ll meet at a centrally located hotel in Auckland, within walking distance of the cruise ship terminals and many other hotels. There, you’ll be equipped with a stylish electric bike and riding gear, including a helmet and a cycle-specific headset, so you can safely listen to your guide while riding. A brief orientation and practice ride will ensure you’re completely comfortable before the tour begins.

Starting from the city center, you’ll ride along the new Grafton Gully cycleway towards the bohemian Karangahape Road (known locally as “K Road”). Once a premier shopping street, K Road experienced a decline but has recently seen a revival with new restaurants, bars, cafes, and shops. At your first stop, you’ll enjoy a stunning view of the city center as your guide shares the area’s history and offers recommendations for places to eat, drink, and shop on K Road. Next, you’ll head to Ponsonby, one of Auckland’s main social hubs with a rich and colorful history. The tour continues through nearby neighborhoods before descending to sea level towards Wynyard Quarter, a prestigious new development with excellent food markets and public events. You’ll then ride over the Te Wero Bridge into the Viaduct, where you might see it lift to let yachts into the inner marina. Finally, you’ll ride along Quay Street back to your starting point. After the tour, you’ll likely be eager to try some of the dining and drinking spots recommended by your guide!

Additional Information

Auckland is regularly voted as one of the most livable cities on Earth and this small group, guided electric bike tour is designed to showcase exactly why that title is deserved. A big part of what makes Auckland great is its wonderful and distinct neighborhoods, as well as the world-class eating, drinking, shopping and cultural experiences that are on offer.

On this guided tour, ride around some of Auckland’s cool neighborhoods, that don’t always feature on the standard Auckland city tour routes – miss them at your peril! As well as showcasing the best of what Auckland has to offer, your experienced local tour guide will peel back the layers and provide you with a fascinating insight into the history and culture of the city. To top off the adventure, you are guaranteed some spectacular views that you might not otherwise see – perfect for the photographers among you. Use of a shiny electric bike and a helmet are included in the tour. The max group size is 6.

  • For your enjoyment and safety, groups are small and personal - so a maximum of 6 riders per group, plus friendly guide
  • Minimum age 14 years old (teenagers of 14-15 years old must be accompanied by an adult).
  • Minimum rider height is 5 foot (152cm).
  • Whilst experience riding an electric bike is not necessary (we’ll provide an orientation and we’ll do a test ride to make sure you’re comfortable before we head off), you must of course be able to ride a bike! If you haven’t ridden in a while, for your enjoyment/safety and that of your fellow riders, we strongly recommend you have a practice riding at home before your visit to Auckland. As well as riding on our wonderful cycleways, we will of course be riding in the road at times (to get to the good places!). Riding in traffic is a dynamic environment, so you will need to be comfortable riding in the road in order to enjoy the tour. And Auckland’s volcanic past means that there a quite few hills to go up and down - the eBikes make going up easy, but you’ll obviously need to be able to ride downhill!
  • Closed toe shoes are required. Sports gear not necessary - casual clothes are fine but dress to the conditions please.
  • Free storage available for small bags at the city centre departure point.
  • The tours run rain or shine – you will be provided free use of a bright and comfortable rain jacket, if you need one.
  • Our electric bikes are designed with a maximum weight capacity of 250 pounds (113 kg).
  • We recommend you bring sunscreen - the sun in NZ can be very harsh!
  • You may wish to bring a bottle of water with you for the ride. You can store this in the bag on your bike. There is also a drinking fountain near our departure point where you can fill your water bottle.
Location

Halsey Street
Your guide will meet you outside The Pantry cafe at the Park Hyatt Auckland – at the corner of Halsey Street and Jellicoe Street, opposite the ASB Building. Once you arrive at The Pantry, look out for your guide – they will be the person wearing the grey or black Power to the Pedal t-shirt!

Wonderful bike tour - Loved this bike tour. Eddie was a wonderful guide. Use of the microphone under the helmet made it so easy to hear the commentary ad we rode along. So much fun to travel to. Mount Eden.

Great orientation to Auckland by e-bike! - Eddie was a great tour guide/trip leader! We are in our mid sixties and felt safe as he was very clear with his directions and he let us know what to expect next as we navigated the bike lanes across town. Headsets and helmets were provided as was a place to store our bag/backpack on each bike. He gave a good orientation to our e-bike and safety procedures and provided time to get accustomed to it before we started out. We should have taken this trip at the beginning of our visit to Auckland as he was very knowledgeable about the neighborhoods we biked through as well as New Zealand history. Thanks Eddie for a fun adventure!

Highly recommend this tour - very impressed!! - Carson did an amazing job! We were all inexperienced at electric bikes and he explained everything so it easy to learn and feel comfortable. He was a great tour guide and told us all about the history of the different areas. 2.5 hours was perfect, just enough time to get a good overview of the city without exhausting us.

Great way to see the top sights & non-tourist areas - The route was a fantastic way to experience Auckland’s harbor, parks, and neighborhoods. Carson made sure we were comfortable with the e-bikes and the earpieces were really helpful as he coached us through the route. We learned so much about the various parts of the city and got to see areas we otherwise wouldn’t have had a chance to visit. Some of the spots were a little challenging so folks should be comfortable with bicycling on roads etc. I highly recommend this tour!!!

Fun Way to See Urban Auckland - Had a wonderful ride with Eric on the e-bikes. It’s a nice tour of a number of urban areas in Auckland. Some parts on a dedicated bike path; some on a street bike path. Eric did a great job explaining how to use the e-bikes (first time for us) and we were off!
