Highlights
  • Athens - After being picked up from your meeting point, we travel to Meteora by bus in a small group.

During the 4-hour journey, take in the stunning countryside as you travel and snap some photos.

Arrive in the traditional town of Kalabaka by noon, the perfect time for a complimentary traditional lunch provided by us to fill you up with energy. Enjoy a free seasonal salad and one main course, plus free water! (Vegan and vegetarian options available.)

If you select the option without lunch, you have free time to explore the city at your own pace.

  • Meteora - Visit the Hermit Caves, known by the locals as the caves of Badovas. The hermit caves of Badovas are very close to Kastraki village, situated between the village and the town of Kalabaka. Badovas is the name of the nearby restored but abandoned monastery dedicated to Saint Nicolas of Badovas.

The caves where hermit monks used to live an extraordinary life back in the 14th century are situated between Kalabaka town and Kastraki village. The area is surrounded by immense rock pillars called Pyxari and Amparia, along with a few other smaller rocks.

  • Meteora - Meet our local guide and reach the Meteora rocks, where an unforgettable experience awaits you. Comprising sandstone and conglomerate, the caves at Meteora are thought to have been inhabited as early as 50,000 years ago.

Listen to our local guide discuss the history and importance of the area. Purchase our multilingual audio guide and enter three active monasteries to get a glimpse of the monks’ lives (entrance not included, 3 euros).

In the 9th century, monks began inhabiting the area again, and in the 14th century, the first monasteries were built. Nowadays, Meteora is home to one of the most important complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries. See all six of these monasteries built on large naturally-formed pillars as you explore and take pictures of a lifetime.

  • Kalabaka - After a full day of exploration, get transferred back to Athens to your preferred drop-off point (4 stops).

Recommendations for solo travelers! - There was a lot of time management on small tours. There was plenty of time to take pictures and explain the sights. The Guides and drivers were kind and I enjoyed travelling alone without feeling alienated.

It exceeded my expectations. - The tour was conducted in English only. The Guide spoke slowly so I understood. They stop here and there not only at the monastery but also other photo spots, so I don't think there's any shortage of photos. The Guide is also actively asking, "Should I take a picture?" They ask. Due to the nature of the tour, The Guide doesn't enter the monastery, but I think it made sense to come just to see the amazing icons.

Meteora experience - I rate our trip 10/10. Bus was very comfortable. The ride from meteora to Athens and back is quite long however we made few stops on the way so it was not bother at all. Both drivers were nice and tour guide Eva had great knowledge about meteora history which she generously share with us. I was also positively surprised by lunch options which were plenty ( also for vegetarians)and we also get a little salad as starter, food was delicious. What I appreciate the most is the fact that they were able to move our trip day as my daughter get sick just the night before trip, I have contacted them and they were so nice to move our trip for following day.
