You will have nearly 5 hours to explore two Monasteries and the hermit caves of Badovas. Meteora is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The monasteries are situated atop sandstone towers, which for centuries served as completely inaccessible sanctuaries for monks. The most frequented Monastery is the Holy Monastery of Great Meteoron, the largest among the monasteries at Meteora. It was constructed in the mid-14th century and underwent restoration and enhancement in 1483 and 1552. The building functions as the main museum for visitors. The Katholikon (main church), dedicated to the Transfiguration of Jesus, was built in the mid-14th century and 1387/88 and adorned in 1483 and 1552.
