Temple of Apollo - Depart from your central Athens hotel and journey to Delphi with your Spanish-speaking guide, passing through the towns of Levadia and Arachova, both renowned for their vibrant carpets. Your first stop is a tour of the Delphi archaeological site, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Europe’s most significant excavations. As you explore the evocative ruins with your guide, you’ll see notable monuments like the Sanctuary of Athena.
Delphi Archaeological Museum - Enter the Delphi Archaeological Museum and leisurely explore this treasure trove. The museum houses numerous artifacts and fascinating relics, arranged in 15 rooms in chronological order from the 15th century BC to the 4th century AD. Don’t miss the bronze Charioteer of Delphi and the Sphinx of Naxos.
Meteora - After having lunch in Delphi (at your own expense), continue by coach to Kalambaka, a modern town often referred to as the gateway to Meteora. Check into your hotel in time for dinner, and then enjoy your evening at leisure.
Kalambaka - Meteora Monasteries - Athens
Great Meteoron Monastery - After breakfast, check out of your hotel and visit the nearby rock towers of Meteora, incredible sandstone peaks crowned with 11th-century monasteries. With your guide, visit two monasteries and enjoy breathtaking panoramic views from the top.
Enter the Great Meteoron Monastery, the highest and largest monastery in Meteora, and listen to your guide’s fascinating insights into its history. Learn about its 14th-century construction by a monk who, according to legend, flew to the top of the rock on the back of an eagle. Take in the views from the monastery windows and visit the Church of the Transfiguration to see its ornate 16th-century nave.
Monastery of St. Stephan - The second monastery you’ll visit is Agios Stefanos, now a nunnery. Explore the ruins with your guide and admire the fresco of the Virgin Mary in the main refectory, said to date back to the 15th century.
Key Tours - Return to your coach and travel back to Athens, stopping in the town of Thermopylae and at Kamena Vourla hot springs. Arrive back in Athens in the early evening.
