- Agios Nektarios Monastery - The Monastery of Agios (Saint) Nektarios is Aegina’s most significant religious site, situated 6 km from the heart of Aegina Town. Founded by Bishop Nektarios of Pentapolis between 1904 and 1910 at the request of several nuns, the monastery began operating in 1904 under his leadership while he was still at Rizarios School. Bishop Nektarios moved to Aegina in 1908, lived in the monastery for 13 years, and was laid to rest beneath a plane tree outside the church.
