- Mt. Aso Nakadake Crater - Situated in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan, the central crater of Mount Aso is an active volcano celebrated for its dynamic fumaroles and breathtaking views, forming the core of the Aso volcanic complex. Visitors have the opportunity to witness the awe-inspiring eruptions, the exposed volcanic rock formations, and the crater lake, which is colored emerald green by volcanic gases. However, due to volcanic activity, access may be restricted, so it is crucial to check the latest updates beforehand and comply with mountain access restrictions when volcanic gas levels are unsafe or volcanic activity is heightened.
- Kusasenrigahama - Kusasenri Beach (Kusasenri-ga-hama) or Kusasenri (Kusasenri) is a vast grassland spanning 785,000 square meters, located in Aso City and Minamiaso Village, Aso District, Kumamoto Prefecture. It stands as one of Aso’s most iconic tourist attractions. In March 2013, it was recognized as a National Scenic Spot and Natural Monument (Yonezuka and Kusasenri-ga-hama), with a designated area of 1,258,508 square meters.
- Takachiho Gorge - Located in Miyazaki Prefecture, Takachiho Gorge is a V-shaped canyon carved by the Gokase River through pyroclastic flows from Mount Aso’s volcanic activity. It is acknowledged as a national scenic spot and natural monument. The gorge is renowned for its impressive columnar jointed cliffs, towering approximately 80 to 100 meters high and extending for about 7 kilometers. Among these, the “Mana-i Waterfall,” recognized as one of Japan’s Hundred Famous Waterfalls, is a prominent symbol of the area. Visitors can experience the exhilarating view of the waterfall up close from a rental boat or enjoy the vibrant greenery and autumn colors from the walking paths. The gorge is also famed as a mystical site linked to mythology.
