- Plovdiv Old Town - The tour begins with a pick-up from your centrally located hotel or accommodation in Sofia. After a drive of about an hour and a half, we will arrive in Plovdiv. Known as the oldest continuously inhabited city in Europe, Plovdiv holds cultural and economic importance both historically and currently due to its strategic location. Evidence of its millennia-long history is visible throughout the city, from the Roman Theatre to the Ottoman mosques. This makes Plovdiv one of Bulgaria’s most enchanting destinations, where every corner reveals history, legends from different eras, and traces of a glorious past. Simultaneously, it is delightful to witness how vibrant the city remains as it continues to evolve and create new history. During our visit, we will explore key attractions such as the Roman Theatre, the Roman Stadium, and stroll through the Old Town, featuring house museums from the Revival Period and narrow cobblestone streets. Following this, we will enjoy lunch.
- Assenova krepost (Asen’s Fortress) - After savoring a traditional Bulgarian lunch, we will proceed to the tour’s final destination – Asenova Fortress, approximately a 25-minute drive from Plovdiv. Asen’s Fortress is perched atop a cliff in the Rodopi Mountain, about 20 km from Plovdiv. This medieval fortress boasts a rich history and offers breathtaking views.
- Bachkovo Monastery - After admiring the natural beauty, we will drive to Bachkovo Monastery. This is the second largest monastery in Bulgaria and one of the oldest, founded in the late 11th century by a Georgian man. The monastery later became part of the Bulgarian church and has endured much through turbulent times, preserving a wealth of history and drama.

Driver was nice and... - Driver was nice and helpful. The tour went in reverse from what is described : Monastery first then fortress then Plovdiv which is definiteluvely the right way to do things. Gives you time to enjoy the monastery and the beautiful views form the fortress before spending the afternoon enjoying Plovdiv.

Great to see another part of Bulgaria - Very good trip and well worth the money. Our guide was really great spoke excellent English. The trip should have been shorter, but there was a transport strike in Sofia so took longer to get out of the city. This is our second trip with BulTrips and both have been great would use again

Amazing experience - Our tour guide we had on the day 27march 2025 was excellent she was very knowledgeable, and even on our way to our destination she was going through about the mountains and about Sofia and the trip ,
The trip we had was very interesting would advise other people to do this tour the views on top of the mountains was breath taking, the history behind it was very interesting
At arriving to our tour she was in depth with everything we needed to know and more she was really good

Pearls of Bulgaria - This experience uncovers the PEARLS of Bulgaria. Bachkovo Monastery as well as Plovdiv are unique places, of worldwide class.

Ideal day trip from Sofia. - This is an ideal one day trip from Sofia. Plovdiv was home to some of the earliest settlements in Europe. There are a lot of interesting sights in the city, including some Roman ruins. On one of the ruins, you can get a panoramic view of the city. There were sufficient toilet breaks on the tour and enough free time for lunch and to see the city centre. The guide was friendly and approachable. You can also organise to be picked up and dropped off at your hotel. If you want to be dropped off somewhere else in Sofia at the end of the tour, the guide can facilitate this. I would definitely recommend this tour if you want to visit sights outside of Sofia and are short on time.

A completely professional tour company and guide that went above and beyond to ensure happy customers - I had an absolutely excellent experience with this tour company. They were so professional and accommodating and went beyond anything I would normally expect to make sure I was a satisfied customer who had a good experience. Daniel was an amazing tour guide. He was knowledgable, informative, and a great conversationalist. He also struck a really good balance between keeping you occupied and giving you free time to look around. The tour itineraries are excellent and varied, and the small group ensures a very personal level of care.
