Tarangire National Park - Located in the Manyara region, this park spans approximately 2,850 square kilometers. Its name is derived from the Tarangire River, which traverses the park and serves as the main water source for wildlife during the dry season. During this time, numerous animals migrate to the park from surrounding areas. The park’s landscape features granitic ridges, river valleys, and swamps, with vegetation including Acacia and Combretum woodlands, seasonally flooded grasslands, and Baobab trees.
The dry season, from June to November, is the ideal time to visit, offering opportunities to see animals such as zebras, buffaloes, elephants, wildebeests, waterbucks, giraffes, dik-diks, impalas, elands, Grant’s gazelles, vervet monkeys, banded mongooses, and olive baboons. Tarangire is renowned for its large elephant population, including the oldest known elephant to give birth to twins. The park is also famous for its termite mounds, which provide habitats for dwarf mongooses. Bird enthusiasts will be delighted by the over 550 bird species found here.
Lake Manyara to Arusha Town
Lake Manyara - Situated between the Arusha and Manyara regions, this park lies between Lake Manyara and the Great Rift Valley, about 130 km southwest of Arusha. Managed by the Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA), it covers a total area of 330 square kilometers, including 230 square kilometers of lake surface. Lake Manyara is part of the Lake Manyara Biosphere Reserve, which also includes the Marang Reserved Forest and an important bird area.
The alkaline lake’s edges provide feeding grounds for thousands of flamingos, and the park boasts over 500 bird species, including the great white pelican, pink-backed pelican, grey heron, yellow-billed stork, marabou stork, greater flamingo, and lesser flamingo. The lake is also home to fish species such as the endangered Oreochromis amphimelas from the Cichlid family.
The park features diverse habitats, including evergreen underground water forests, woodlands on the lake’s western shore, extensive swamps, and grasslands, offering ample space for wildlife and birds to graze, climb, hide, and drink. Visitors can expect to see a variety of mammals, including wildebeests, Thomson’s and Grant’s gazelles, zebras, bushbucks, waterbucks, elephants, giraffes, baboons, warthogs, hippopotamuses, African wild cats, African civets, spotted hyenas, honey badgers, black-backed jackals, tree-climbing lions, and leopards. The park is also home to 180 documented butterfly species.
The rainy season runs from November to April, so the best time to visit is during the dry season, from July to September.

At Serengeti Safari Booking, we go the extra mile to ensure that you get what you came for. We provide free pick-ups and drop-offs from hotels and airports once a Safari trip with us has been confirmed. We also offer quality accommodation options to travelers who haven’t yet secured a place to stay. Participating in a group Safari not only allows for cost sharing but also creates a platform for exchange of ideas among travelers as they unravel the beauty of African culture and wildlife in their natural habitats. A two-day Safari in Lake Manyara and Tarangire National Park provides ample time to explore a myriad of wildlife, the big 5 (Elephants, Lions, Buffalos, Leopards, Rhinoceros) to name a few, which is possible even within a day. We also have other animals such as Zebras, Gazelles, various reptiles, threatened wildcats, wildebeests, baboons, and numerous bird species including the Flamingo, amongst many others. These animals thrive in diverse vegetation conditions; from woodlands to evergreen groundwater forests where the prey find sustenance and refuge, while predators spot their pray from the strategic vantage points of acacia and baobab trees.
