Highlights
  • Poienari Castle - The Fortress is under renovation.
Poienari Fortress is a medieval fortress located in Romania, near the town of Arefu in Argeș County. Perched high on a cliff overlooking the Argeș River, it is often associated with the historical figure Vlad the Impaler, also known as Vlad III or Vlad Dracula.
The fortress was initially constructed in the 13th century by the rulers of Wallachia but gained prominence in the 15th century when Vlad the Impaler repaired and expanded it. It served as a strategic military fortification.
The fortress is situated on a steep hill, about 400 meters above the Argeș River. Visitors must climb approximately 1,480 steps to reach the ruins. The fortress was strategically placed to monitor and control the surrounding area.

  • Vidraru Dam - Vidraru Dam is a large hydroelectric dam located on the Argeș River in Romania. It is situated in the Făgăraș Mountains, near the town of Curtea de Argeș in Argeș County, and is one of the most impressive engineering feats in the country.

  • Capra Wasserfall - The waterfall is located at an altitude of approximately 1,690 meters (5,545 feet) above sea level. It is situated on the southern side of the Făgăraș Mountains, near Lake Bâlea and not far from the Vidraru Dam. The name “Capra” translates to “goat” in English. The waterfall is named after the Capra River, which flows from the nearby Capra Lake and feeds the waterfall.

  • Le Lac Balea - Bâlea Lake is situated at an altitude of 2,034 meters (6,673 feet) above sea level, making it one of the highest lakes in Romania. It is located in the Făgăraș Mountains, part of the Southern Carpathians, in Sibiu County.
The lake was formed during the last ice age, as a result of glacial activity. It covers an area of approximately 4.65 hectares (11.5 acres) and has a maximum depth of 11.35 meters (37.2 feet).
